Umbilical Cord Bleeding Knowledge Base
Umbilical cord bleeding 3 weeks after stump fell off? My daughter is six weeks old and her umbilical cord fell off at 3 weeks. Today there is some dried blood on her belly button and in her onesie. Is it normal for there to be bleeding this late after her cord fell off? Should I call the doctor or wait and see if there is any more bleeding? Ok I called the Doctor, they said as long as there is no blood trickling out, no fever or smell to it, it's normal. Whew! Thanks!
Two day old boxers umbilical cord bleeding? My baby boxers were born yesterday. Today one of the little boys umbilical cord is bleeding at the place where it connects to the tummy. Mommy will not stop licking and pulling at the cord(she is a compulsive licker as it is). What can I do to help the mommy quit licking without hurting her or puppies. The vet says that iodine helps in the drying process but we are afraid of an allergic reaction of either mommy or babies. I could put some neosporin on it but i'm afraid this might make her lick more being something foreign on her babies. Need help!!!
Is umbilical cord bleeding normal? My nine day old baby girls umbilical cord fell off. Now it's bleeding. It's not a lot of blood but when I noticed it, it was dried up on her shirt and the top of her diaper. I took an alcohol wipe and wiped it and it's still bleeding little. I wanted to give her a bath for the first time tomorrow but if this is a sign of infection, I'd rather not. Is this bleeding normal?
umbilical cord bleeding? my newborn will be 2 weeks tomorrow..most of her cord came off about 2-3 days ago..but a little black stump like thing is still in her bellybutton...my parents told me it was okay to give her a bath as this was normal and i did but it started to bleed a little. i wasn't sure if it was normal for only part of the umbilical cord to fall off leaving a black stump and if it should be bleeding? i have been cleaning it 3 times a day with alcohol like the doctor told me too.
Is it okay for the umbilical cord to bleed? My son is 2 weeks old tomorrow, his umbilical cord has not fallen off yet, and it bleeds sometimes. The blood never gushes, but it will... ooze? out from around the stump. It doesnt seem to bother him, but there is an awful lot more blood than I'd like. Is this normal? he doesn't see the doctor untill next friday. Should I take him in earlier, or is the bleeding okay?
The Umbilical Cord and Bleeding? I had my baby about two weeks ago--it will be two weeks tomorrow--and on Sunday when changing her diaper, her umbilical cord fell off. However, there is a little bit still in her belly button. We have left it alone as we want it to finish falling out on its own. Yet, just now, I was changing her diaper, I noticed blood spots on the inside of her onsie. I used a flashlight to better inspect her belly button and I noticed an odd smell. Now, I am not sure if it was diaper smell or belly button smell, but there was definately a smell. Also, the top part of the remaining cord is hard, but when you gently pull up on her button, there is a moisture beneath the "scab." I cannot get through to her pediatrician to ask about this, so I am asking here. Is this spotty bleeding normal for cords that have not completely fallen off?

Questions about umbilical cord at delivery? 1. When the baby is delivered, the umbilical cord is cut, but why does the cord stay on the baby until it falls off? 2. When the cord is cut and clipped, does unclipping it cause bleeding? 3. Why does the baby no longer need the maternal blood supply ex-utero?
Baby Umbilical Cord? My daughter is ten days old and I just noticed her belly button is bleeding, but her umbilical cord has yet to fall off...is this normal or should i be concerned?
My babies umbilical cord fell off about two weeks ago? I have noticed that now her belly button is protruding about an inch from her stomach.....it is not bleeding, there is no fluid coming out of it, but it is a little red. It doesn't seem to cause her pain, which is why I thought nothing of it; I figured it would go down in a week or so. But it hasn't. She has a doctor's appointment the day after tommorow, but until then, does anyone know if this is something I should worry about?

Umbilical stump detaching prematurely & bleeding? My newborn is 5 days old. I have been cleaning her umbilical cord stump with alcohol every time I changed her diaper since she was born (like the hospital reccomends). I made the mistake of giving her a bath & letting it get wet & now it is trying to come off prematurely & there is some blood. I rubbed neosporin on it & covered it with a band-aid. Does anyone have any advice for me before I can get her in to see the doctor tomorrow?

Question about umbilical cord healing? My baby is a week and a half old. I took her to the doctor with some concerns yesterday, and she goes back for her 2 week check up in 1 week. The doctor said that her cord looked ok, but I do not remember either of my other daughters' looking this way. Has anyone had a baby with a small amount of bleeding at the base of the cord when it has halfway fallen off? Her cord is detached at the top portion, but still attached at the bottom half. It has a litttle bit of blood underneath where it is detached.

does this sound like a miscarriage or am i just weird? ok so i'm not bleeding and i don't have bad cramps. i have however had a miscarriage 1 year ago and i kinda know the symptoms. now like last time i have this weird tissue occasionally in my urine. not chunks and it's white not pink or red. the nurse my husband called said probley i'm not drinking enough water. which i start drinking lots today and for now on. i don't have cramps aside from the minor sharp pain here and there and some dull cramps. last time i had a pain on my rightside when i would go to sleep at night. this time i feel great. but i just wanted some input. also does anyone have any idea why when i feel near my belly button i can feel like a something there. i didn't feel it before. one person says it's the umbilical cord. i don't know how all this works. i'm 9 weeks pregnant about. i still have to go to my first visit which is in a week. but i've talked to several people and they tell me don't worry. which is very hard! also is it normal to be forgetful?
newborn has bruised belly button normal? My son is two weeks old and his umbilical cord fell off about two days ago. There is now what appears to be a bruise around is belly button, and it is occasionally bleeding. The bleeding I believe is normal, but the bruise hasn't happened in my other children. Just wanted to know if it is something to bug his doctor over. Thanks in advance!
13 weeks pregnant and worry every day.. How can I stop? I know that worrying isn't good for the baby and I try so hard BUT this is my 8th pregnancy with only 1 living child. I lost my last baby at 20 weeks due to her umbilical cord being wrapped around her neck 3 times. The losses before her were all between 6-9 weeks due to low progesterone. I would go in to see my doctor and there would be no heartbeat, no other sighns of loss-No bleeding or cramping at all. Now they have addressed my hormone problem with my last and current pregnancy with progesterone which seems to have helped now that i'm 13 weeks but I still can't stop worrying that I have lost the baby again and I'm just not having any signs of it. I don't know what to do, I even wake up in the middle of the night thinking of it. Any ideas of how I can seetle myself down? I see my high risk OB every 2 weeks. Thanks for the kind answers and i pray everday 2-3 times a day.
Still having umbilical cord problems...? My daughter is seven weeks old and lost her cord around 2 weeks. it wont stop scabbing. Now i just started to pick the scab out when i am cleaning it, and it looks like the is something like extra skin? or like pink and it bleeds a tiny bit? i am going to call her doctor but im just very concerned about what this is and she wont be able to go until monday? has this happened to any one else? Her cord fell off when she was 2 weeks old and wont stop scabbing... I was told a little bit of blood was normal.. this is where it gets soo confusing.
Umbilical cord starting to come up on one side should I be conserned? My son is 6 days old. A little while ago while I was changing his diaper he bumped his umbilical cord and I could see that one one side of it it was starting to come up and underneath looked slimy and fresh. If that gets bumped and the rest falls off could he bleed to death. I am paranoid. I know its normal for a little puss to be coming out which is happening and also there was a few dots of dried blood on his clothes but VERY VERY little. I know I am probally just being a paranoid mom but this is my first baby and I would like to know from someone else who mayve experienced this. Thanks a ton.
Clotting still after 4 days? I had my daughter Friday the 29th and today i'm still clotting is this normal?! Also is it okay for her umbilical cord to bleed some? It really scares me!
My babys umbilical cord came off early...? She was born dec 6th. A week after I had her I let a family member change her diaper and they did it to tight and it pushed the cord off. it was still attached but only by a little tiny string, and it was a little bloody and it has a little puss on it, and it was open like you could still see inside her belly, it was pink and when she cried it popped out. Its now been a while its not bleeding but its still looks a bit red and is still pussing a little bit. Which is usually dried and kinda green yellow looking. Its not open alot really anymore but when she pushes her stomache out it still looks a little open and pink. Should I put neosporin on it or bacitracin or something? Im not sure because its still a little open. I got to the docs monday. And I have been cleaning it with alcohol often. I called the doc when it happend and he told me to put alcohol on it but he never said anything about ointment. I want to know if people think its safe to put ointment on.
my sons belly button is bleeding? my son is 1 month old he lost his umbilical cord at 2 weeks and now all of a sudden its been bleeding..is he okay or what should i do im really worried
umbilical cord falling off? my son is 9 days old and his stump has been bleeding slightly for a couple days, it has partially came off and underneath looks slimy and i think i see puss but i could be wrong. the doctor said to clean with warm water but i just wanted to know what your babies belly button looked like underneath when it came off
Single Umbilical Artery? I had an ultrasound done at 16 weeks, and it appeared to them that the umbilical cord had a single umbilical artery. I was wondering if anyone has experienced this, and did it cause any problems during their pregnancy, or after? I've also had a subchorionic hematoma, which caused a lot of bleeding in the beginning of my pregnancy, which I still experience occasionally now.
How are other mammals nourished in the womb? I was talking to my husband today, and that came up for some reason. He says that only humans have umbilical cords and belly buttons. But that seems wrong to me. I think I've heard somewhere that cows have umbilical cords. Anywho, I feel silly that I don't know this already...but can someone help set us straight? Do other mammals have umbilical cords and if so, how is it detached without harming the baby or mother (like if it's done wrong with humans, they bleed out) in nature? And if not, what do they have for en utero nourishment?
Does this mean I have an Incompetent Cervix? I have been having trouble for a few years, after or during sexual intercourse I usually bleed and the next day it goes away. I've gone to a few gyn and they say I'm ok until last month I went to a gyn and he told me I have a small injury on my cervix( he said it could be due to my last childbirth, my daughter had her umbilical cord around her neck and doctors had to help her)
Is it OK to use Neosporin on a cat? She was spayed Wednesday, and the wound looks different? There isn't bleeding, and it isn't red, there is no discharge, but the incision has a distinct odor (like a baby's umbilical cord before it falls off) and part of the incision looks white. It is 11 pm here, and the vet is open tomorrow morning, so I will call then, but can I put neosporin on it tonight, and will it help her? She isn't acting like she is in pain, she is still very playful, eating, drinking, and happy, so I don't think it is major, but it is enough to give me a nagging feeling...
C-Section Question? I was hospitalized last week after bleeding (bright red blood). I was 33 weeks at the time. They ran several tests and sonograms, and told me that the umbilical cord was not attached as most pregnancies and may have contributed to the sudden onset of bleeding. Also, they noted that the umbilical cord was wrapped around my son's neck and resulted in his heart rate dipping periodically. They want to do an ultrasound in two weeks and then determine whether or not I should be c-sectioned at that point. Anyone else with a similar problems that can offer me insight here? I am now on bed rest and forced to stop working..Thanks! Also..yes the cord was determined to be around his neck..they have set me up for twice weekly non-stress test monitoring.. And they gave me two shots in the behiney to speed up his lung development..
any cat midwives around? My cat suki had her second (and last) litter of kittens 3 days ago. She gave birth with absolutely no problems the first time, and didn't need my help at all, apart from emotional support, but this time it was a little more difficult, though nothing major. Unlike the first time, she didn't chew off the umbilical cord right to the stomach for all of the kittens (maybe wasn't hungry enough?) and I thought she would do it in her own time once she'd rested a bit. Well, to cut things short, I now have about 3 or 4 kittens with umbilical cords about 2cm long, but which have dried up. What I want to know (and please state your sources for this) is whether I can cut the umbilical cords shorter without making them bleed or hurting the kittens, and if so, how? I also want to know whether they will eventually shrivel up or fall off naturally like they do in lambs if I leave them alone? What would you suggest? okies, thank you for the info ^_^ and yes, sadly this will be her last litter :( I will get her speyed as soon as the kittens are weaned...
