The blood never gushes, but it will... ooze? out from around the stump. It doesnt seem to bother him, but there is an awful lot more blood than I'd like. Is this normal? he doesn't see the doctor untill next friday. Should I take him in earlier, or is the bleeding okay?

What can cause a baby to be born with the umbilical cord tied around its neck? My mother told me that she had to have a C-Section because the umbilical cord was tied around my neck due to her bending over so much (I came out all purple and nearly suffocated). I am now 6 months pregnant and every time that I bend over to pick up something, my mom gets mad at me and tells me that I need to squat instead. Can bending over cause my baby to be born like I was? The other day my mother and sister in law shrieked at me don't lift your arms up like that it will wrap the umbilical cord around you baby's neck! Today in the hospital , I took care of a woman from VEnezuela who's baby was just born yesterday.WHen I was explaining umbilical cord care to the mom (I do speak SPanish) I told her how the yellow pin clamping the umbilical cord would be removed before baby went home. She told me it is tradition to save the umbilical cord and the pin with it. She was very insistent that the pin be there also. how umbilical cord functions? what is the connection between mother, placenta, umbilical cord and fetus. i mean do nutrients and oxygen diffuse into the placenta through uterine wall and the placenta forms blood and pumps it into the umbilical cord directly into the fetus' artery? because the blood cannot go direct from mother into fetus, because fetus has low risk of contracting blood diseases (like aids and hep) from mother. also is stuff from umbilical cord one way, or does it also remove co2 and waste. also, seeing as a fetus is entirely oxygenated through its blood, without use of lungs, can this possibly be done with full grown humans. can a human survive without lung function through purely intervenous oxygenation?

But her "belly button" sticks out - not like an "outie" but like part of the umbilical cord is sticking out of her "button". It looks like a tree stump. Umbilical cord hanging by a thread of skin...? My son is exactly 3 weeks old tomorrow and his umbilical cord is almost completely off. Except for the fact that it's hanging on by 2 little "thready" pieces of skin. Very thin strands of skin, but enough that it won't just come off when you slightly pull back the dead umbilical top. I've been using rubbing alcohol on it every day (1-3 times a day). I'm wondering, should I just pull it off or just keep cleaning it until those last little strands come loose?

I think part of the problem might be that his naval sticks out really far and it is covering the some of the umbilical cord therefore the end of it is still slimy looking while the other half has completely dried up. Caring for umbilical cord, please help...? my son is 10 days old today, his umbilical cord fell off after 8 days but before it did, it smelled very bad. the doctor told me not to mess with it before i left the hospital so i never put any alcohol on it or cleaned it with water or anything, now that its fallen off, it is still gooey in the middle and it still gets little crusties on it, is this normal? i think it still had a very slight smell to it, but nothing like it was before the cord fell off. there are no other signs of infections and it isnt red and it doesnt bother him or anything, the past few days i have been dabbing alcohol on it and i dont know if it seems to help, is the cord normal to have a strong smell to it? or should i call the doctor? the cord has already fallen off but the gooey stuff in the middle is not healed yet, is this normal?

The Umbilical Cord and Bleeding? I had my baby about two weeks ago--it will be two weeks tomorrow--and on Sunday when changing her diaper, her umbilical cord fell off. However, there is a little bit still in her belly button. We have left it alone as we want it to finish falling out on its own. Yet, just now, I was changing her diaper, I noticed blood spots on the inside of her onsie. I used a flashlight to better inspect her belly button and I noticed an odd smell. Now, I am not sure if it was diaper smell or belly button smell, but there was definately a smell. Also, the top part of the remaining cord is hard, but when you gently pull up on her button, there is a moisture beneath the "scab." I cannot get through to her pediatrician to ask about this, so I am asking here. Is this spotty bleeding normal for cords that have not completely fallen off?

2 vessel umbilical cord? I'm pregnant with child # 2.=) I am a little concerned. When I was pregnant with my first daughter she had a 2 vessel umbilical cord. normally there are 3 vessels, one for food, one for waste and one for oxygen. When I gave birth he held it up and said yep 2 vessels do you mind if we take it to our lab for research I said ofcourse. When I was pregnant with her they told me my baby had a 20% chance of heart or kidey problems(due to the umbilical cord) well she is fine except for a heart murmer but she got that from her daddy. And my husbands dad also has it. I am so afraid that this baby will have the same thing. I am probably about 6 -7 weeks along my first prenatal physical is on monday. I am going to tell them this. Does the umbilical cord have a pulse? I'm 6 1/2 months pregnant. I have been feeling this strong pulse in different areas of my stomach. At first I thought I might be feeling my baby during hiccups, but it is too consistent for hiccups. Single artery umbilical cord or SUA or singleton Umbilical cord? At my 20 week ultrasound I found out that my umbilical cord has only one Artery instead of two. I am told that this happens in about 1 to 100 pregnancies and that I have an 80% chance of having a Baby without any defects. Can the umbilical cord been seen in an u/s?? Im 39weeks 3days and had an u/s last week to see how big my baby is. I have been 1cm dialated for 3 weeks and my baby isnt dropping. When my sister was pregnant the umbilical cord was wrapped around the babys neck. Is this a possibility as to why my baby isnt dropping?? I thought you could see the umbilical cord in an u/s and the doctor doesnt seem worried...Im being induced on Monday.

My period came and an umbilical cord-looking thing came out with it, is it a possible "miscarriage"? It's a mixture of green/yellow/brown and looks very much like an umbilical cord. However, I've not had any signs of pregnancy, so I'm not too sure what this means. Is this just a miscarriage at an extremely early stage, whereby the embryo simply bleeds as though I'm having a normal period, and the remains, i.e. the umbilical cord, comes out together with my period?

When i had my is it a boy or girl ultrasound they graded my placenta as 1 which i hear is allright for the trimester im in, but they graded my umbilical cord 3 what does this mean? Is it good or bad?
