Today in the hospital , I took care of a woman from VEnezuela who's baby was just born yesterday.WHen I was explaining umbilical cord care to the mom (I do speak SPanish) I told her how the yellow pin clamping the umbilical cord would be removed before baby went home. She told me it is tradition to save the umbilical cord and the pin with it. She was very insistent that the pin be there also. Umbilical cord hanging by a thread of skin...? My son is exactly 3 weeks old tomorrow and his umbilical cord is almost completely off. Except for the fact that it's hanging on by 2 little "thready" pieces of skin. Very thin strands of skin, but enough that it won't just come off when you slightly pull back the dead umbilical top. Caring for umbilical cord, please help...? my son is 10 days old today, his umbilical cord fell off after 8 days but before it did, it smelled very bad. the doctor told me not to mess with it before i left the hospital so i never put any alcohol on it or cleaned it with water or anything, now that its fallen off, it is still gooey in the middle and it still gets little crusties on it, is this normal? i think it still had a very slight smell to it, but nothing like it was before the cord fell off. there are no other signs of infections and it isnt red and it doesnt bother him or anything, the past few days i have been dabbing alcohol on it and i dont know if it seems to help, is the cord normal to have a strong smell to it? or should i call the doctor? the cord has already fallen off but the gooey stuff in the middle is not healed yet, is this normal?

The Umbilical Cord and Bleeding? I had my baby about two weeks ago--it will be two weeks tomorrow--and on Sunday when changing her diaper, her umbilical cord fell off. However, there is a little bit still in her belly button. We have left it alone as we want it to finish falling out on its own. Yet, just now, I was changing her diaper, I noticed blood spots on the inside of her onsie. I used a flashlight to better inspect her belly button and I noticed an odd smell. Now, I am not sure if it was diaper smell or belly button smell, but there was definately a smell. Also, the top part of the remaining cord is hard, but when you gently pull up on her button, there is a moisture beneath the "scab." I cannot get through to her pediatrician to ask about this, so I am asking here. Is this spotty bleeding normal for cords that have not completely fallen off?

2 vessel umbilical cord? I'm pregnant with child # 2.=) I am a little concerned. When I was pregnant with my first daughter she had a 2 vessel umbilical cord. normally there are 3 vessels, one for food, one for waste and one for oxygen. When I gave birth he held it up and said yep 2 vessels do you mind if we take it to our lab for research I said ofcourse. When I was pregnant with her they told me my baby had a 20% chance of heart or kidey problems(due to the umbilical cord) well she is fine except for a heart murmer but she got that from her daddy. And my husbands dad also has it. I am so afraid that this baby will have the same thing. I am probably about 6 -7 weeks along my first prenatal physical is on monday. I am going to tell them this. But I was wondering if any of the mothers or fathers out there have ever heard of this? if any of you have heard of this let me know Thanks =)

Does the umbilical cord have a pulse? I'm 6 1/2 months pregnant. I have been feeling this strong pulse in different areas of my stomach. At first I thought I might be feeling my baby during hiccups, but it is too consistent for hiccups. My husband and I thought maybe I was feeling a pulse from the umbilical cord & that's why it's in different areas. We're not sure if the umbilical cord has a pulse tho..... ?????

My babies umbilical cord is not healed yet.? My baby is 2 wks and 3 days old and his umbilical cord has to fallen off yet. Today when i lifted it up to clean it i noticed blood on the q-tip. It is dried up and looks like it is trying to come off, my doctor told me to clean it every other time that i change him, do i need to clean it every time instead? and is my babies umbilical cord infected or is it just trying to come off and that is why it is bleeding?

Question about umbilical cord? My baby is 13 days old today (1 week tomorrow) and his umbilical cord still hasn't fallen off. I thought it would only take 7 to 10 days. Single artery umbilical cord or SUA or singleton Umbilical cord? At my 20 week ultrasound I found out that my umbilical cord has only one Artery instead of two. I am told that this happens in about 1 to 100 pregnancies and that I have an 80% chance of having a Baby without any defects. I am honestly hoping to find other mothers who are int he same boat as me or someone who knows of someone who either is going through this or has already gone through it. I would appreciate both great outcomes and the not so great also. Overall I have been positive since I found out but research is not as personal as real peoples stories. Thanks

Can the umbilical cord been seen in an u/s?? Im 39weeks 3days and had an u/s last week to see how big my baby is. I have been 1cm dialated for 3 weeks and my baby isnt dropping. When my sister was pregnant the umbilical cord was wrapped around the babys neck. Is this a possibility as to why my baby isnt dropping?? I thought you could see the umbilical cord in an u/s and the doctor doesnt seem worried...Im being induced on Monday.

Umbilical cord/ belly button now? my daughters umbilical cord was cut off by the doctor because it was just hanging by a thread literally. She said it would get gross and to keep cleaning it out because there was a growth she had to cauterize. Well her belly button keeps bleeding should i be worried about this our 6 week check up is at the end of march. Should i wait and watch her belly button or should i take her in now??

I'm wondering when in history it was known that what a mother takes in when pregnant goes to the baby through the umbilical cord. My period came and an umbilical cord-looking thing came out with it, is it a possible "miscarriage"? It's a mixture of green/yellow/brown and looks very much like an umbilical cord. However, I've not had any signs of pregnancy, so I'm not too sure what this means. Is this just a miscarriage at an extremely early stage, whereby the embryo simply bleeds as though I'm having a normal period, and the remains, i.e. the umbilical cord, comes out together with my period?

umbilical cord issue? I am 30 weeks along and on last US at 28 weeks, they found there may only be two chambers within the umbilical cord. There are supposed to be three. If only two, they will have to check my baby's kidneys, liver and pancreas at the time of birth. Has anyone else been through this?

Umbilical cord tied around the neck? How often does it occur? I'm 27 weeks pregnant 28 tomorrow. On mother's day, a client of mine got me a flower lei. (necklace made of fresh flowers). I wore it for an hour and my co-worker told me to take it off because it's a supertition not to wear a lei when your pregnant or else your baby will choke on its umbilical cord and also necklaces.. something that goes around your neck . I'm the most supertitious person in the world and now I'm worried. Am i just being paranoid??

What is umbilical cord grading? When i had my is it a boy or girl ultrasound they graded my placenta as 1 which i hear is allright for the trimester im in, but they graded my umbilical cord 3 what does this mean? Is it good or bad? My next OB appointment isnt untill next month and this question is killing me. If it needs to be known i was 20 weeks when i had the ultrasound and now im 21. Anyone know what this means?

Dog umbilical cord/ belly button?? Hi there, I'm buying a Bulldog, and My breeder had him to the vet a couple of days ago he is 8 weeks old. She said he is perfectly healthy, however, his umbilical cord opening is not healed up yet. How long does it usually take for this to heal. Is this normal? Is this going to delay him coming home to me? I have asked my breeder these questions and I know she will write me back to answer these questions, however she is very busy and I want to know now lol. I'm not going to call a vet she still has the dog!! He's only 8 weeks old, she wont ship him till he's at least 10 weeks old.
