Cord Blood Stem Cells Information

Stem Cells Journal Knowledge Base

learn how stem cells are extracted, isolated, and cultured? I would like to learn the different techniques to extract and culture stem cells including: Different techniques, materials/equipment needed, material costs, man hours and culture times, protocol anything else I know there are a lot of variations such as nutrient solution based on animal blood or not, getting cells from bone marrow, blood, fat, membranes, etc. Different isolation techniques. I have seen general "discovery channel" type stuff, and very obtuse journal artices, but nothing like a LAB PROTOCOL. My degrees are in other fields so I have had some difficulty finding what I'm looking for but have come close a few times. What I have found is still a little vague, lacking images that are needed, or leaves out that a certian part might take 300 attempts over six months of a technicians time. Any print or preferable online sources? Also interested in similar stuff for gene insertion such as using lipids or artificial chromosomes Also interested in how embryos are grown and stem cells seperated and cultured. Thanks for the info but "Each ten-day course is limited to twelve participants who are chosen from throughout the world, based on their potential to perform outstanding research in this field. " Any books or online sources that have better availability and don't cost a small fortune?
What has influenced your opinion of stem cell research? I am giving a short presentation on people's opinions of stem cell research. This is a very volatile topic and I'm just wondering where most people have gotten their opinions on the ethics and need for stem cell research. I am an undergrad in Molecular Biology who is graduating in a month and I have worked with stem cells but I'm looking for other people's opinions. Have your feelings about stem cell use been shaped by church, television, school, magazine and journal articles, or other sources? You don't have to share your opinion but definately can if you want to. Thanks.
Adult Stem Cell Research? I have read many articles on the Adult Stem cell research therapy. And regarded by many scientists to be potentially far superior to that of embryonic. 1. Adult stem cells do not cause immunologic reactions because they come from the patients own body Serious problems have have been documented in embryonic stem cells because of this factor. 2. Adult stem cells do not become tumors, in many cases embryonic stem cells have become tumors 3. Adult stem cells can differentiate just as much as embryonic stem cells 4. Adult stem cells can be taken from a living donor , or the persons own body 5. Adult stem cell transplantation has been reported successful by many doctors and scientists and for many disease conditions 6. They are developing therapies to cause adults to increase their own production. here are a few websites by doctors and scientific journals on Adult Stem Cell Therapy. http://www.newscientist.com/article.ns?id=dn3723 http://www.sivb.org/publicPolicy_StemCell.asp http://www.stemcellresearch.org/facts/prentice.htm PROBLEMS WITH EMBRYONIC STEM CELLS http://www.stemcellresearch.org/facts/escproblems.htm
stem cells: pro or against? Abortion? A simple yes or no is ok, but I would prefere if you could argument. DO NOT post huge extract from the bible or from scientific journals, if you must put a link.
Statistics of embryonic stem cell research? I have been doing some reading of the various journal articles on esc research and have discovered that a lot of times their statistical analysis is flawed (I'm a mathematician, not a clinical researcher). For example, if an experiment studied 20 rats and 8 of them died, most of the time the result of those 8 rats are not included in the final analysis, showing a much higher rate of "cure" than there actualy was. Has anyone else noticed this? Has anyone done a literature review to see if this is prevailant in the science literature? Could I just have had too small of a sample of the literature?

the truth of Gerald P. Schatten? 'Schatten Stole Hwang's Patent' Gerald P. Schatten Prof. Gerald P. Schatten at the University of Pittsburgh is suspected of attempting to patent technology to create embryonic stem cells without crediting his now-estranged colleague, Korea's disgraced cloning scientist Hwang Woo-suk. The Pittsburgh Tribune Review reported in its online Saturday edition that the U.S. Patent & Trade Office is processing a patent application filed in April 2004 by Schatten on the stem cell technology. ``Schatten and two University of Pittsburgh researchers listed as co-inventors _ Calvin Simerly and Christopher Navara _ state their methods would make human cloning a practical procedure,'' the Tribune said. It also said Schatten claimed their methods could be used to create embryonic stem cells with a potential to cure human disease. ``The breakthrough _ now discredited _ was announced in a paper published in the journal Science in June 2005
Are they reading the graphite on the outhouse walls? The cult of the religious freaks are emerging from their caves over the stem cell issue. Not surprisingly they are armed with all the findings of the journals that are printed in such scientific hubs as Kansas City and Pooperdunk, Iowa In their determination to make this country a third world power in scientific research they bring arguments that are consistent with such great breakthroughs as holey healing cloths (available for a small tax deductible donation) the carnival healers who make that poor cripple stand and walk again (hallelujah!!!) . As written on the outhouse walls they claim that (1) embryonic stem cell research does not show as much promise as adult or even the new skin cell research. This they divine from goat droppings as there is no scientific basis for this (2) The use of cell tissue from embryos from fertility clinics that are scheduled to be thrown out in the garbage would be taking a life in order to save one.( good slogans replace good thinking). Where in the history of human existence has any one of these discarded clumps of tissue ever become something living? The most distressing thing about this tragedy is that these ignorant flat worlders have not the lightest hesitation in dragging he rest of our country into their primitive caves where they huddle around the sacred fire. They have never stopped to consider that if hey don’t like embryonic stem cell research, nobody is forcing them to take any treatment as a result of this research. Where do they get the arrogance to deny it to others? Let me propose a solution to all their problems…MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS!
Research Paper? I'm currently doing a research paper on the benefits of abortions. I'm having a difficult time finding valid information - or any information at all right now. Pretty much what I'm looking for is like how having abortions means more study for stem cell research AND so on (not just about stem cell r.) but anything that pretty much benefits people/the world/the sick. Just what's good about it in general. If anyone knows of any websites/books/articles/journals... etc.. OR a good way to search for that type of stuff. PLEASE let me know. I would very much appreciate it. And also, I can't google anything or use wikipedia. Oh also, I don't care for your opinions. :)
What is your zodiac sign? Does any of this describe you? I am Aries, I must say I do resemble some of these remarks. I'm always bumping my head & I can relate to Hard Headed Women by Cat Stevens and I won't bring a knife to a gun fight :) ENJOY!
What is your horoscope sign...? I am a Leo. I love automated opening doors and nothing would give me more pleasure than to have Clappers applaud me when I enter a room. I must admit I am an attention seeking person. ENJOY!
