Cord Blood Stem Cells Information

Stem Cells Knowledge Base

Stem cells? How do fertilization clinics happen to have stem cells? Where do they come from? Are they donated by women? How are they used in in-vitro fertilization? Aside from safety concerns for people who receive cell transplants, what reasons do people have against stem cell research?
Stem Cells???????????????????? Stem Cells can come from adult stem cells and embryonic cells. what is the difference between the two? there is so much controversy over embryonic stem cells, so why not just take the adult stem cells from bone marrows? do the two types of stem cells have different properties or ways they work?
stem cells? Why do people have to pay so much for stem cells? It comes from our body. If I wanted to draw the blood out from the umbillical cord myself w/ a syringe, and store it in my freezer, Why not? What are our rights when it comes to our baby's stem cells? Does someone have more information on my concerns?
STEM CELLs??????????????? i need to write 2 more pages of my stem cell paper. i have NOTHING else about stem cells to write. can you tell be a bunch of info about it (cool facts or something, not anything obvious) or tell me a ton of sites to go to? please and thank you!
What does it mean for stem cells to remain unspecialized or become specialized? I read and article about stem cells and there's this section that I don't really understand. "Therefore, in order to develop such treatments scientists are intensively studying the fundamental properties of stem cells, which include: 1. determining precisely how stem cells remain unspecialized and self renewing for many years; and 2. identifying the signals that cause stem cells to become specialized cells. " So what unspecialized and specialized cells mean? And if you can, can you also explain briefly what stem cells are and capable of? Thank you. :]
Why are adult stem cells difficult to grow in the laboratory compared to embryonic stem cells? One of the disadvantages of using adult stem cells for stem cell therapy is that they are difficult to grow in the laboratory, could anybody tell me why this is? Thanks
What can an embryonic stem cells do that adult stem cells can't? I'm doing a four page report on stem cells for my science class on stem cells. I need to know what embryonic stem cells can do theat adult stem cells can't and what adult stem cells can do that embryonic stem cells can't. Please include your resources. Thanks for helping.
How are stem cells extracted from their source? I am part of a science project called The Leading Edge Project, and my group's topic is stem cells. We have created a presentation, but we have one nagging question: How are stem cells actually removed from the adult body/other source? We know where they come from and what they are, but we'd really appreciate knowing HOW they are extracted.
What happens to stem cells once they are injected into a heart? - Can the DNA of adult stem cells be programmed to turn into the right type of cell? or is it completely depend on growth factors... - How do stem cells know how to organize in the failing organ? - Where can I ask a doctor or researcher about this?
How do I get stem cells isolated and removed from wisdom teeth? I read that stem cells can be taken from wisdom teeth and preserved if the person needs them. I know they can only grow into teeth, but how can I do this? I'm getting them removed in a few days. Should I ask my surgeon? Will the cells survive if I just put the teeth in a bag? Can I preserve them in a freezer? Sorry if any of these questions seem stupid.
How long would it take for stem cells to turn into an organ? Just curious... Not to educated on the topic. How long would it take for stem cells to develop a working organ for a human to use. Like say a heart or kidney. How long would it take for the stem cells to turn into one?
Stem Cell Experts: Somatic cells having the ability to become any of the 3 germ layers significance? It is stated that somatic cells can be regressed from their differentiated state and brought back to pluripotency, which means they can become any of the 3 germ layers using specific factors. What is the significance of this finding? What does it allow? I will rate 5 stars for a great response and preferably a excellent website link where I can learn more about stem cells in an overview.
What would happen if stem cells were injected into normal, healthy skin? I've seen articles where stem cells can repair damaged tissues and have regenerative effects and everything, but does anyone know what would happen if the stem cells were injected into normal skin? Would the cells still differentiate and make...extra tissue, or would older cells be replaced by the stem cells, or what?
What are the main chracteristic differences between stem cells and normal human cells? i know that a stem cell is a non differentiated cell, and can grow into almost any kind of cell. and that there are 3 main types and where they can come from. i need to put this question's answer/s into a context that i could maybe put it into a table comparing stem cells and normal cells. Anything else in relation to your viewpoint on the issue is also appreciated. ~this is for study into a science assignment, any help is appreciated.~ could you maybe tell me also what things stem cells do that normal cells dont and vice versa. What are the organelles in a stem cell, how do they function ... do they have organelles? thanks
Why do we need to use embryos for stem cell resear when we can now grow stem cells without the use of embryos? There's a proposal in Michigan (No. 2) where we have to vote yes or no for stem cell research. I'm for research on stem cells to cure diseases, but do we really need embryos for this at this point in time when we have found that we can grow stem cells on our own without the use of embryos? Is there a benefit to using embryos?
What is the period when embryonic stem cells can produce any type of cell? Reworded: As in, when is there embryonic stem cells in an embryo and when can they produce any type of cell?
Where do stem cells come from? And is it likely to see a new-grown business out of that? There's market for egg donor, men even masturbate for money (sperm bank), basically everything has to do with reproductive system are being sold on the market. Do you think if there are embryo business in the future where they produce stem cells to hospital or research institutions after the scientists have remarkable findings on curing all those diseases with stem cell?
Would you be willing to use stem cells from the unborn to stay forever young? In a series of careful experiments, Amy J. Wagers and colleagues have demonstrated that the stem cells of old mice exposed to certain factors present in blood from young mice begin to act like young stem cells, with the process driven by signals from another type of cell nearby in the bone. In fact, not only do the blood stem cells begin to take on characteristics of younger cells, but the tissues of old mice exposed to this yet-to-be-identified factor or factors appear to be much more “youthful.
What type of scientists study stem cells? I've always been interested in stem cells research and I want to be a scientists that study this. And I've realized that I never new what kind of scientists do this! Weird I know!! Plus what type of education comes with this. What is the minimum amount of education you need to be a scientist? Thank you! (: Thank you! It really means a lot to me!
How do adults get thier stem cells taken out and where do they get the samples from? I wasnt sure for adults. I know you can save stem cells form umbilical cord for infants. Do adults just save thier stem cells from a blood draw???
Do you believe stem cells have an important role to play in medicine in the coming decade? Why? Stems cells are multipotent and can become a variety of different nerve cells and/or glial cells. They have also become quite controversial in the last decade. The reason is that embryonic stem cells can be derived from destroyed embryos. do u think stem cell might be useful in medicine?
What are 3 different types of Stem cells? How do scientists think they can treat 2 illnesses with them? Can anyone give me some information on three different types of stem cell? And some information on 2 illnesses and scientists/whoever think they can treat these illnesses using stem cells? I'd be grateful for any information you can give me. Thanks.
What is your opinion on stem cells and abortion? I have a survey I need some people to do, if you wouldn't mind taking a few minutes to answer a few questions, I would be thankful How old are you? What is your gender? Which is more important: Science or Religion? Do you know what stem cell research is? Do you believe in stem cell research? Do you believe in abortion? Should an aborted fetus be used for scientific purposes? Should stem cells be taken from embryos or adults? Both? Should the owner of an aborted fetus decide what should happen with that fetus? Would you like it if you could have an organ made for you if you ever needed it?
What are the advantages of using embryonic stem cells as opposed to adult stem cells in research? I know that most people today are against embryonic stem cell research due to ethical reasons, and most people support adult stem cell research. My question is, are there any particular advantages in experimenting with or using embryonic stem cells in research or therapies? Why might a scientist want to use embryonic stem cells instead of adult stem cells?
What research has been conducted in the field of stem cells for the regrowth of nerve cells? I want to know more about this field but need a basic knowledge. I am doing an assignment on the moral and ethical issues around stem cells but I can only find information about embryonic stem cells. If anyone has any websites/general ideas or even any previous experience with gene therapy and stem cell technologies or can help me find some information I would be very grateful.
Has the use of stem cells recently become legal? I recently heard that scientists are currently using stem cells on human organs/tissues. Obama has only been making decisions for a few weeks now, I can't believe if he had already allowed it. Bush would have never allowed it with his religious beliefs. But it was just on tv recently that a doctor used stem cells from a fetus to repair someones spine. Has anyone heard of a new law allowing the use of stem cells?
What's the deal with stem cells curing paralyzed people only in China? Is it true damaged heart, nerve, and brain cells are being repaired in China's hospitals? If so then why is it only happening in China? Cause as I have seen the stem cells being used are not from fetuses, but from healthy Chinese infants who are as much hurt by the extraction of stem cells from their bodies as they are from blood tests. So why isn't the same happening anywhere else?
What are stem cells and how can they be used? Can someone please explain to me what they are using simple terms? Everything I read on the internet is so complicated. Where can we get stem cells?
What is a recent law concerning stem cells? I need to find a recent law (federal or state) that was passed concerning stem cells for a report. I have 2 days to come up with a presentation for my Anatomy/Phys class on a specific type of cell ( and as you probably have already assumed, I was assigned stem cells) and I have been searching for a long time, yet I can't find this specific piece of information. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Are reprogrammed adult stem cells somehow inferior to embryonic ones? Everything I've heard about it is that adult stem cells that have been reprogrammed to a pluripotent state are exactly identical to embryonic stem cells in every way. Is that the truth? I'm looking for a scientific answer here, not socio-political commentary, sound bite transcribes or bumper sticker material. Just yes or no with some kind of SCIENTIFIC elaboration. Thank you.

How do scientists from one country research on embryonic stem cells lines that are in another country? In 2001, Bush announced that he would allow federal financial support of research that uses embryonic stem cells being cultured in laboratories around the world. Some of the cell lines were Sweden and India, so does that mean that some federal money was given to scientists in Sweden/India to research? I don't understand how it works. I think I am missing something.
Which of the following statements regarding stem cells is false? Which of the following statements regarding stem cells is false? a) Embryonic stem cells can be induced to differentiate. b) Embryonic stem cells can give rise to all the different specialized cells in the body c) Adult, but not embryonic, stem cells can be grown in laboratory culture. d) Adult stem cells are present in adult tissue. e) Adult stem cells are partway along the road to differentiation.
How many retarded people out there think you have to kill babies to get stem cells? I had my daughters stem cells saved when I gave birth. It was the smartest thing I've ever done in my life. She turned out to have heart defects, and needed surgery 5 days after she was born. She will have problems later in life. So now that we have saved her stem cells it can be used to repair her heart. Stem Cells save lives. Someone says it may not happen in my life time. Well, I have faith in them. That's why I donated half to research.

I have heard of some interesting research being done regarding the use of stem cells in curing cerebral palsy. Could anyone provide me with a contact for more information or a site where the procedures are discussed more in depth? Thanks.
Where can I send a stem cells related article for publication? I am a student and I have written few articles related to biological sciences, but I cannot find a magazine where I could publish them. I have an article on stem cells and other related, but it is not a research paper, therefore journals will not accept them. I am searching for a magazine that is targeted to general public or university students. I cannot send it to a local newspaper. It is a scientific article for students or researchers. It needs to be a magazine which is at least undergraduate level.
Opinions- would stem cells being used as a replacement for animal testing influence your opinion? Just want to know. What are your thought on stem cells? Also, would using them as a replacement for animal testing (as well as many other things to enrich the quality of human lives) make them more or less right?

I need ANY, even if they're a small religion. I also need credible sources where I can find information on them and site it. I do know that all major religions are ok with donating, but I need ANY that don't. Thanks.
Why use stem cells from a fetus than an adult? I thought that only a fetus had stem cells, but then I found out that everybody has stem cells. Why do they only use stem cells from a fetus when the can use it from fully grown adults? Is there something different from using a fetus stem cells than an adult stem cells?

what are advantages and disadvantages of adult vs embryonic stem cells? Adult stem cells are undifferentiated cells found throughout the body that divide to replenish dying cells and regenerate damaged tissues. Embryonic stem cells are the "blank slates" of an organism, capable of developing into all types of tissue in the body.
How do Paralized people make stem cells? If hematopoietic stem cells are found in the bone marrow which is in the hip. What about those who are disjointed from their from the pelvic region and down. That is they don't have that area? Or what if they are paralyzed in the legs?
What's the big deal about embryonic stem cells? I've heard about embryonic stem cell research being legalized. I'm all for stem cell research, considering the ways they can help people. However, I know there are other ways to get stem cells, like from the umbilical cord after birth. I know that cord or adult stem cells are multipotent (rather than totipotent or pluripotent) and far more limited in their development than embryonic stem cells, but with research those barriers could probably be surpassed without continuing something as controversial as the embryonic research. What do you think?
what percent of stem cells come from dead babies? I need to know for a school project. and by dead babies i mean like embryos and placentas and fetuses and stuff. and also... what percent come from umbilical cords and adult stem cells.

How do genes have a connection with the research of stem cells? I am doing a persuasive essay that stem cell research should continue. And i'm writing that one of the pros of this research is that scientists will have a better picture and know how to "cure" genetic dieseases. So how does the research of stems cells contributed to this.
How long before males that were circumcised as babies can get their foreskins back from stem cells? I finally learned the grim details about what happpened to me as a baby. I am very depressed by what I learned recently that my mother never gave me a chance to decide if I wanted to be circumcised, period. I feel so violated, especially by the doctor. I am hoping sometime in my life (within the next 10 years if possible, maybe sooner) stem cells can bring back what was stolen from me as a baby, but not very optimistic about it.

Stem cells and therapeutic cloning - how would it work? Just curious I know they implant the DNA from the "donor" into an empty human egg cells then it starts to develop similarly to how a fetus develops. Let's say that you wanted to use this technique to grow replacement body parts. In theory, how would they do it? Would they just let the embryo develop to a certain point then harvest stem cells and grow the replacement body part with those stem cells? I thought those stem cells formed tumors etc. Please explain.
Does anyone have any experience with saving placenta blood for the stem cells? We are five weeks from our due date. I wonder if it's worth paying to save the stem cells. I know that there are public banks out there. I'm thinking that you'll never know what advances the future will bring so it may be very smart to save these stem cells.
I don't understand how blood stem cells work as an alternative medicine for cancer? A friend of mine just got back from South Korea where there is a famous blood stem cell Dr. This guy used in same fashion, blood stem cells from younger people with the same type of boold type as the patient. He also does Chemo along with his stem cell treatments. Anyone have any web sites out there I can take a look at? I'm confused as to how this would work?
why does the embryo have to die when scientist are collecting stem cells? We've been talking 'bout stem cells in class and i don't understand why the embryo has to die because i believe that is the whole controversy concerning stem cell research.

Will God ultimately allow humanity to grow new organs from stem cells? Body parts like the pancreas or liver or lungs stricken with cancer might eventually be able to be replaced completely using replacement organs grown from a person's own stem cells. Will God enable this functionality in the human body? Or will it be made to fail to enable death to continue according to its gory "design"?

I've heard that stem cells are located in various parts of the human body? 1- What are the parts of the human body that contain stem cells? 2- The first stem cells that are produced in the embryonic/fetus development stages. Where are they? 3- What part of the body contains the highest number of stem cells? 4- Finally, can we say that the function of the zygote is similar as that of a stem cell? Theoretically, is it possible to create a human being out of a stem cell given the proper conditions?
Where can I find information about Stem Cells? I need some *creditable* web sites with information on the different types of stem cells and that go over the arguments for and against stem cell research. Anything would be appreciated at this point.

What kind of scientist works with stem cells? I'm starting college soon and want to work with stem cells when I graduate. What kind of scientist works with stem cells? What would I have to major in? Would I need an advanced degree?
Which of the following is not true of adult stem cells? a. They have been found not only in bone marrow, but also in other tissues, including the adult brain. b. Although more difficult to grow than embryonic stem cells, they have been successfully grown in culture and made to differentiate into specialized cells. c. They are differentiated cells that can be induced to dedifferentiate and become totipotent. d. If pluripotent, they are capable of developing into different types of cells under appropriate conditions. e. These relatively unspecialized cells continually reproduce themselves.
Dedifferentiation of adult cells into Embryonic stem cell? To be honest my professor is Korean researcher in US has created the differentiate an adult cell into Embryonic stem cell, using mouse. He did it but, it seems that another researcher stolen or did smth wrong, anyway what ever it was, finally the creator became not him but that person. So I think he wants us to find negative sides of this work (differentiation of adult cells into Ebryonic cell). So please give me more exact negative fact for that. Hope this additiona information wil help you.
Any ideas on how to find a good research mock proposal topic, probably in stem cells/development? It can't be related to my dissertation work so I can't use topics I already know a lot about! That's the biggest problem. So I need to come up with a brand new idea from something I'm not working on. It needs to be in the general area of embryonic stem cells and/or development. At first I was thinking cardiovascular type development but I think I could even expand to different areas of development/differentiation. Usually I come up with my next "line" of research based on what actual research I'm doing, but this must be unrelated. I'm just trying to become an "expert" in every possible field now so I know where the good areas to explore are but that's like trying to do 100 PhDs at once! I have been reading like crazy but I could sure use some more expert advice. If anyone has any good avenues to explore or papers/groups to watch let me know. Any ideas or suggestions? ...How to approach? Thanks.
What is the Most promising disease that can be cured by stem cells? Stem cells have cured diseases today but there are others that could be resolved. Which one has the most potential and why?
How are stem cells coaxed into becoming other cells? Can someone provide me with a link or explanation of how exactly stem cells are encouraged to 'morph' into specialised cells and what stages the cells undergo in transforming to a specialised cell. I just need a proper scientific explanation but that is easy to follow and understand.

How is the stem cells treatment in thailand compared to Beike corporation done in China considering the cost? We are trying to get Stem Cell treatment for our 8 yr old son who has CP and severe MR. The treatment in China is expensive. Are there any hospitals in Thailand or anywhere else where it is less expensive but on International standards.
Stem cells? Could someone tell me where they come from? You hear a lot about stem cell research and extracting stem cells, but where do you extract them? Does it always involve the killing of an embryo or can u get the exact same thing from an umbilical cord? Also, I am interested in arguments for and against. Thanks =) Also, what is the difference between stem cells and foetal cells?

Who is against Stem cells being used from unborn embryos to save lives? What people are against that? I'm doing a paper on Stem cells. I know that people don't agree with killing unborn embryos but i don't know who really doesn't agree with it. Can anyone help me please!
Why are some people against umbilical cord stem cells? I can understand why someone is against embryonic stem cells (don't kill a life to make another's more pleasant). Yet why are people againt using something that used to be thrown in the trash can? This is not about repoduction of the human. This is about curing a sickness of your family (which is possible now).
What is the significants of embryonic stem cell research over adult stem cells research? I have been told that there is more potential in saving lives with adult (or other non-embryonic) stem cell research over embryonic stem cell research. I know about the whole genetic arguement (because getting ACS has the genetic code of the patient, the patient will accept it idea) so I know the advantages of ADC over ESC. What are the advantages of ESC over ASC?
Why is it OK to clone an animal and kill it for meat, but not OK to use stem cells from an embryo? A little follow on from one of my previous questions. The FDA in the US has approved cloning animals for meat production, but the government won't approve taking stem cells from human embryos which would be destroyed anyway. Presumably they are more concerned about their food. emp, if you think you are "more equal" than a cow, you need more humility. midnight.... read your own link. There is a whole list of research which is not funded.
Is There A Difference Between Embryonic Stem Cells and Those Found In Adults? I read something about how red blood cells or lymphocytes (i am drunk, so i can't quite remember) come from stem cells. If adult humans have stem cells, why can't we use those instead of embryonic stem cells for research (since Bush is a dick about the subject)?
What do you think of my Haikus on Stem Cells? my biology teacher set us the homework of righting a poem about stem cells, i chose to do a haiku. WHat do you think of them, whcih is the best and can you make any suggestions. As i watch Stem Cells, From an unborn embryo, imorality. As i watch stem cells, fast becoming specialized, I think is it right.
How exactly can stem cells benefit with paralysis and all the other diseases they say it can benefit? I am not understanding how the stem cells can help fix all of these things anyone want to inform me?
Realistically, how long before science will be able to generate organs using our own DNA and stem cells? I'd just read about an experiment where stem cells were grafted onto the "shell" of a rat's heart, and scientists using that as a framework were able to encourage growth such that a living, beating heart arose. How long before this might become available to human beings, any educated guesses if not realistic estimates?
Do all tissues contain stem cells? (This is a somewhat leading question, intended to get you to the following? Do all tissues contain stem cells? (This is a somewhat leading question, intended to get you to the following question.) Why is it important that a tissue might have resident stem cells?
Cancer STEM cells true cause of cancer and researchers missing the ball? What do you think? 1994 Researchers discovered the cancer stem cell in AML (leukemia). Other researchers did not believe it. Since then, about 15 cancers have been found to have cancer stem cells. Now the cancer stem cell is the cell that produces the cancer cell. Treatments for the last 30-40 years target only the cancer cells, missing the stem cell altogether. This may be why you get complete remissions in cancer (no cancer cells), but then the cancer returns because the cancer stem cell remains to regrow the cancer cells. Research is proving this out at Stanford, U Toronto, U Mich. and Hopkins. Yet other research centers and doctors have not picked up on this idea. This is akin to malpractice perhaps. Clinical trials will be coming out to target the cancer stem cells, and if you get some cures, then there will be a complete shift in thinking. Too bad it has taken 40 years.
What do you think about parents who have another child to save the first one, with the stem cells of the new? child? I don't know to much about stem cell research, but couldn't they get stem cells from the parents? And if not, how would you like to know that the only reason you were conceived was so that your sibling could be saved, not necessarily because they wanted you.
If it is unknown how long it takes to fully differentiate stem cells, why not just wait a long time? I heard stem cells take a long time to differentiate and that if they don't go completely then their "cures" can be problematic and lead to teratomas so why not just let stem cells rest for a year or something to make sure they are differentiated?
What are the differences between adult and fetal stem cells? Is scientific progress being made that will make it unnecessary to use fetal stem cells or embrionic stem cells?
what are the effects of oraly ingesting mesenchymal stem cells from a bovine source to treat DDD? DDD - Degenerative Disc Disease. I have read some studies suggesting MSC (mesenchymal stem cells) can cause growth of healthy aggrecan m olecules when injected into the nucleous pulposus of degenerative discs, but am concerned about side effects.
Is my understanding of stem cells correct? If they can make a stem cell into a glia cell, they could use them in people who need glia cells. They might be able to do this in the future, but they can't turn stem cells into glia cells yet. Are my above two statements correct? I know this isn't perfect, but I don't understand stem cell research very well, and I need the information for a university science project on schizophrenia. I came across an article that said the brains of schizophrenics have fewer glia cells.
When exactly is the next Senate vote on stem cells? I know the House of Representatives voted in favor of stem cells January 6, 2007 so now it is the Senate's turn to vote. Please cite your source so that I can look it up, too. Thanks!
what are different types of Stem Cells? im doing a little bit of research on Stem cells.. what are different types of Stem Cells and how many are there?
Is it possible for stem cells to hurt someone in any way? I am writing a paper about stem cell research, and one of the topics I'd like to address is whether it can harm a person in anyway. I tried google, but found no results,so I turn to you for help.
How many people store Cord Blood Stem Cells? We are thinking of storing our expectant childs stem cells from their cord blood. Does anyone know who prevalent this is, I live in Europe but any numbers for America, Australia etc. would help. I have read quite a bit about it but usually from companies in the market so I am looking to see if there is some credibility to this by seeing how many people do it?
How many stem cells are found in an adult tissue like cardiac muscle? What is the avarage number of stem cells in adult tissues? Can we find a number like one in one thousand? if they are very low in number, how can they regenerate tissues and compensate dead cells. As I know cells die and old cells are replaced with new cells in many tissues.
Stem cells? OK im reading info on stem cells and it says in this one im reading that there are four types of stem cells. Totipotent,Pluripotent,Multipotent, and Progenitor cells. http://www.stemcellresearchfoundation.org/About/FAQ.htm#1 I have ben reading alot about it and I found many articles with mistakes so I want to know if its the right information. 3 or 4 types of stem cells???
What are some of the uses of Stem Cells? I am writing a report and would like some reliable information. I also need to know some scientists who study Stem Cells and their views.
What do you know about stem cells? I need to know everything about adult stem cells and adult stem cell research. I have to write a essay persuading the use of adult stem cells. Don't worry people aadult stem cells can be extracted without harming any babies!
Stem cells? Do you know of any stem cell research where scientists have taken clones of embryos to harvest stem cells?
stem cells? i am writing a paper on stem cells i will adress - how to retrieve stem cells -how they are used - benefits - detriments - ethical concerns - and whether or not reserch should be funded by the government can anyone suggest sources for this (i would prefer book/ JSTOR sources)
Stem Cells? Stem cells can (and eventually will) be a crucial part of curing many diseases. How can anyone disagree with stem cell research to cure people? Please dont bring God into this question...
stem cells??? hi i have this biology h.w, and i have to get at least two articels about stem cells, and if their research should go on or not? i need facts because i have to write an essay about it. so basically articels that can support the stem cell reasearch. thank u!
Stem cells? I heard u can do magic with stem cells and kids. Can I take my kids into doctor and have them use stem cells on my two kids to make them smarter? They're already kinda strong for girls so I don't want to make them stronger but I JUST want to make them smarter because frankly they're kinda dumb - is that possible?
Stem Cells? Did you hear about the new technology that made skin cells act like any other cell? They are doing the same thing as stem cells but without killing fetuses, they can mimic any cells your body has lost. Pure magic. Sorry, i have no idea how this ended up in religion.. I was being figurative about the word "magic" and "fetuses" if you were too D.U.M. to figure it out...
stem cells..? please list the number if you can answer these: 1.What are some cures that can be made by stem cell research? 2.so we have any cures now from stem cells? 3.what is the current state of this technology
Stem cells? Can someone plz tell me why scientists are interested in stem cells and can you give me an example of how a stem cell can be used??
Stem Cells ...? For a presentation, I'd like to know: What are Stem Cells used for? What are the For & Against Arguments for the use of them? And opinions to back up the pros and cons? Thank you! :D
Stem Cells? Not many people know that the "fetuses" used for stem cells are actually the fertilized eggs infertile couples use to have a child, the doctors make dozens of extras to better increase the odds of getting the woman pregnant. The ones they dont use are thrown away like common garbage. (or more like common biohazard garbage.) So my question is if it is murder to use stem cells to potentionally save another life, then why is it that doctors are allowed to make dozens of fertilized eggs and throw away the extras? Its just a freindly debate so please no one get too offended.. I could debate either way and dont have too strong a moral conviction.
Stem cells? Why are you religious nuts against research into stem cells. The possibilities to help people are huge, yet you guys are against it. They are just cells, the cells are alive yes but they are not a person and never will be.
stem cells? Are stem cells extractecd during the blastocyst stage? Is the blastocyst stage considered a embryo?
Stem Cells -? Why do people disagree with the Stem cells research"? and why it's a controversial issues "? and is there any laws against the Stem cells research"?
Stem cells!? Can anyone tell me the structure of stem cells? Thank you!
stem cells? Some research findings suggest that certain adult stem cells can act as pluripotent cells. With continued rearch, clarity of this matter may solve the ethical issues behind ES isolation and research and provide hope for patients ( any idea on it )?
Stem Cells? Would it be against the law if a husband who is a quadrapaligic Gave his sperm and his wife gave her egg and fertalize\them in a petri dish and then used the cells for stem cells for her husband
stem cells? Do you think we should use the advantages of stem cells(for instance: heart disease, stroke, , burns and spinal cord damage...) even thought the cells are taken from tissue of embyros? treating cases like heart...
Stem Cells? How can we benefit from stem cells? i know they are cells that help make new ones, and thay can help cure disease buh what eles do they do? and how can humans benefit from that and how can you make them see that stemcells can help.
Stem Cells...? If i had an unlimited supply of stem cells, would i, in theory, be able to live forever?
stem cells? are there any studies done with stem cells and kidney failure
Stem cells? A few months ago I read an article about a less controvercial way to retrieve stem cells but I can't recall where they retrieve them from. Does anyone know where?
Stem Cells? What are stem Cells?
Stem Cells? what are some arguments for and against the use of stem cells in medicine and biomedical research
stem cells? what do stem cells do and what are they suppose to do
Stem Cells? I need some help? I'm SUPER confused about what stem cells are. Could someone PLEASE give me an answer tht i'll easily understand:) THANKYOU VERY MUCH:)
Stem Cells? Do you think stem cells are promising?? or are scientists weaving a false hope for them??
Stem Cells ? Hi pals, I am a mathematician and a chemist. There's been a lot of hype on Stem cells. Can someone tell me what are they and why is there so much fuzz about them ? -TG http://hotbacteria.blogspot.com
Stem cells...? Hi! What makes a stem cell pluripotent? Is it just the fact that it was taken from an already differentiated cell and it cannot be reversed? Is it not possible for a stem cell to produce, say, an oocyte, so that really, it's totipotent? (Because a fertilized egg is the ultimate totipotent cell) Or am I taking this too far... like, is the difference b/w toti- & pluripotency only *relatively* short term? Thanks!
Stem Cells? I am 28 yr, suffering from Cerebellar Ataxia, (progressive disablities, its very difficult to perform daily activities with such disease) there is no cure for this, but recently stem cell transplantaion is taking place in some countries. If some one have already transplanted stem cell in Cerebellum (part of brain), Is it OK, is the treatment is permanent ?
Stem Cells? I need to do a presentation on how horrible embyonic stem cell research is, i would appreciate any facts, pictures, or web links that show the ugly face of stem cell research. Thank you.
stem cells? does anyone know how many active stem cell lines there are?
stem cells? what is the current US policy on stem cell research?
Stem Cells? Has any stem cell surgery been done to humans, ever? If so, what did it do, was it a success or failure, and also add in any additional details please.
stem cells? is stem cell research banned in the UK, if so by whom, why and where was the referendum. cheers folks
Stem Cells?? What are some drawbacks to stem cell use? i know that i just need some info on that question
Stem cells!? I am writing a paper on stem cell research and am supporing it! I need a title for the paper Short and meaningful! Thankyou :)

Stem cells? Would you consider a sixteen celled organism a human being or not
Stem cells...? Can some one explain what the contravercy is and why politians have a problems with their reseach? I'm not looking at the embreo/abortion angle explanation. Keep the abortion issues out.
Stem Cells? Im not very informed on this and would like to be. Just under what cinditions are humans tested? Live babies? Live babies in utero? Thanks in advanced.
stem cells? it seems to me the conservative base are the first to judge anyone and everyone that disagree are not cristian or think that science is good for america untill it can be sold to our enemies and challenge corprate greed do you agree
Cancer stem cells are the true cause of cancer? Cancer stem cells were first postulated over 100 years ago. Biologist named Beard called then germ cells that produce cancer cells in 1902-1906 Then in 1994-97 researchers finally did isolate the first cancer stem cell, in leukemia. Since then cancer stem cells have been found in multiple cancers like breast, colon, pancreas, myeloma, and brain. Leading research centers for cancer stem cell work are Johns Hopkins, Stanford, and U Michigan. There are some clinical trials soon to start to target cancer stem cells. So, what is a cancer stem cell? it is the cell that produces the actually cancer cell. Stem cells divide into more stem cells and progenitor cells that go on to be mature cells. So the cancer stem cell will reproduce itself and more cancer cells. Current therapies do not kill the cancer stem cells, so they then can then produce more cancer cells. If you can kills of all cancer stem cells, then the cancer may be cured. T
Why are stem cells good? I'm doing a major college essay, and so far I've only found solid reasons why they are bad, i.e. ethical and moral issues, etc. I need equally strong reasons as to why stem cell research is a positive thing because the paper is Pro and Con-->Basically a persuasive essay supporting stem cells, and another discouraging it combined in one. My professor also asserted that this is one of the biggest grades we could possibly obtain in his class. PLEASE contribute extremely strong reasons as to why stem cell research is positive, and explain them. I need a Works Cited page as well so please provide the source. Thanks a LOT
Stem cells - they can potentialy become various cells, in stem cell research how do we control the process? What Im trying to ask is if an embylogical stem cell can become any type of cell, or an adult (eg- heamopetic stem cell) can diff to WBC, RBC etc- how do scientist use these cells to grow into the cells they want to use for that particular reason? (Another way to put it -as opposed to getting a haemopetic stem cell for example and seeking a a RBC, how do scientist make sure it doesnt become a WBC?) Thanks :)
Embryonic Stem cells vs. Adult Stem cells? Alright, so what advantage do embryonic stem cells have over adult stem cells? Researchers say that embryonic stem cells have so much potential? There must be a reason that we are still researching embryonic stem cells if adult stem cells are already fixing things. Input? And I'd also appreciate it if you took a look at my other question: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Aok3t_V_hUZXRzFyYG7XNkjsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20080330124721AAG8GYS Thanks in advance!
Stem cells and cloning? •Stems cells can be totipotent, pluripotent or multipotent. What do each of these terms mean? With this in mind, why are pluripotent embryonic stem cells used in therapeutic cloning research? •Give two examples (other than treatment of Parkinson’s disease) of how embryonic stem cells could be used to treat disease. •Why is the use of adult stem cells often unsatisfactory for therapeutic cloning? Give an example where adult stem cells have been used to treat/cure a disease. •Give two realistic/sensible (even if you do not believe in reproductive cloning) uses of reproductive cloning. Justify their use.
Adult Stem Cell and Embryonic Stem Cells.? Okay, can somebody tell me if I am correct? Adult stem cells are cells found in any human being. They can be found in various tissues. When cloning these cells, you can only replicated it to be the same cell. So, if it was a skin cell, it could only turn into another skin cell. Sometimes a body doesn't accept these cloned cells, though. Alright, and then the embryonic cells. they are an embryo that is taken from a mother's womb. They can be used with any sort of tissue, and will be a custom fit with any body. Am I right? If not, somebody please explain the difference. Also, why would somebody use an adult cell over the embryonic cell, and vice versa? How do the embryonic cells fight diseases? your answers are greatly appreciated.
How are the 3 main stem cells Embryonic stem cell Embryonic germ cell Adult stem cell different to body cells? so yeah how are the Embryonic germ cells Embryonic stem cells and adult stem cells different to body cells???? thanks in advance
Can stem cells directly become red blood cells? or for that matter, any kind of blood cells. what are Hematopoietic stem cells in depth. How would a Eukariotic stem cell become a blood cell dirctly? is a blood cell Procariotic? In other ways, i've heard stem cells become cells that create red blood cells? is this in the marrow? please explain!! TY!!
Qns on Stem Cells? I have an upcoming project. Answerer will be given credits. Well the qns here is: 1) What controversy has the stem cell research ignited? 2) What is the difference between an adult stem cell and embryonic stem cells? Thank you.! ;)
What are stem cells and how are they important? Explain for a 10 year old, please.? We are learning about brain traums in class. Our guest speaker from the Hall of Health told us about stem cells being something to help us repair our brains. Our teacher told us afterwards thatthere are two sides to the story. He said that stem cells are very powerful and useful infixing things, but there is controversy about if we should use them because the most powerful come from fetuses. He wouldn't tell us if it was right or wrong because he said that's what we're supposed to figure out. We have to talk with our parents about how stem cells are used and we have to talk about abortions. You know, is it right to use them. Our teacher also told us that the president has a thing right now where we can use stem cells we already have for research but he doesn't want us to keep getting more but states can have opinions. Also our teacher said there are different kinds of stem cells and people are studying how to use animal cells. Very cool. My parents said they dont know,"Go look it up."
Embryonic Stem Cells. Research without complete destruction? Can it be done? Can they harvest stem cells from embryos without completely killing the embryo? If the cells can multiply infinitly, why take them all? I don't believe in killing a developing child for use of its stem cells. Regardless of the fact that they are used for medical purposes and they would be disgarded anyway, I think it is still wrong. They have the highest rate of success, vs. adult stem cells. Those can be found in the ear and in some other places. There aren't many successful alternatives to ESC harvesting. I know I might feel differently if MY child had a condition that could be cured with ESC. I would want the best treatment possible. It's good that they have found stem cells in cord blood, but harvesting/preserving it takes thousands of dollars. We were talking about this today in class and I'm trying to find out more. If you don't think it counts as murder, please explain why. Thanks in advance to all serious answers Kelsey
embryonic stem cells! HELP PLEASE!? hey. how do embryonic stem cells get their nutrition? if you do not know the answer to this can you please tell me how they either perform regulation (control and coordination of their activities) or transport. HELP IS APPRECIATED THANKS
Scientists Use SKIN Cells to create Stem cells, will libs still demand the use of stem cells from abortions? http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070606/ap_on_sc/stem_cells NEW YORK - In a leap forward for stem cell research, three independent teams of scientists reported Wednesday that they have produced the equivalent of embryonic stem cells in mice without the controversial destruction of embryos. They got ordinary skin cells to behave like stem cells. If the same could be done with human cells — a big if — the procedure could lead to breakthrough medical treatments without the contentious ethical and political debates surrounding the use of embryos. Experts were impressed by the achievement. st judy's comet...good answer...i'm only biased against the use of stem cells from aborted children paid for by the guv or TAX payers who then in turn finance billions in research again!!! it's a racket...stem cells yes...aborted children no....but good answer. kudos.
Stem Cells: Is there a preponderance of these from one parent over the other? Where do my stem cells stem from (is one parent favored over the other in terms of the genome it contains)? Or are stem cells composed of both mom and dad's genome? What does "Chimerism" mean in light of stem cells for a male offspring (me).
why lill babies to get stem cell when we could use adult stem cells without sacrificing life? my question is, why do peple want to kill a living being to get the stem cell. adult stem cells do just as much and nobody is killed. im not a republican, but it seems to be a common sense answer. i mean, killing babies to get the stem cell for research is a lot like ripping someones heart out where they stand to see how it pumps. its ridiculous. also, to say something, i admit that cells in a human body r not life, except at conception because its the earliest stage of life. i also admit that it has many uses, but in reality embryonic stem cell research is just murder, and a good alternative is adult stem cell research, which is much more moral. as a note, i normally hate bush, but he was right on this one. i do not want my tax dollars going to the killing of innocent PEOPLE. now if only he could pull our troops back. what do u think on this issue, please be detailed.
Can stem cells lose their efficacy? If humans are getting weaker, due to pollution and other factors, will stem cells begin to lose their effectiveness over generations? Males have already begun to have lowered testosterone levels. Some studies show brain size as shrinking. I wonder if stem cells themselves will eventually be affected, losing their potency. P.S. I am against stem cell reserach, but not because of religious reasons, (i.e. the whole embryonic stem cell debate).
Stem cells from amniotic fluid - will religious stem cell opponents still be opposed? Today scientists announced that they have found useful stem cells in the amniotic fluid of pregnant mothers. This method will completely avoid the religion-based "destruction of the zygot" concern. Will religious opponents of stem cells oppose this method as well? http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070107/sc_nm/stemcells_fluid_dc_1 So Julian, are you opposed to medical science altogether? Why does god allow us to discover ways to treat and prevent disease and suffering? Jim, I'd love to think you are right that christians will all feel this way, but check out Julian's response. We are not trying to be bigots, we are just concerned that fundys such as Julian will continue to prevent the use of useful stem cells.
Germ cells vs. Stem cells? how are the different types of stem cells (adult stem cells and embryonic stem cells) different from germ cells?
Do human stem cells have a right to life? People who say abortion isn't murder, because an embryo isn't a living human may not be aware of the high value scientists place on stem cells. Researchers seem to think they are more important than common tissue, such as skin, bone, or liver cells. Aren't stem cells themselves, the essence of human life in it's smallest form? Unlike common tissue, stem cells have the unique ability to produce any, and all the other types of cells. There seems to be a contradiction here, between the abortionists, and the researchers. The former places little value on minute quantities of human tissue, the latter seems to think very small amounts of some tissue can be the salvation of the human species.
What is a stem cell? Describe the process in which stem cells become differentiated.? The whole question... What is a stem cell? Descridbe the process by which stem cells become differentiated. Gived the current ethical delimmas that surround this type of research, briefly summarize the prons and cons of stem cell usage. What possible alternatives are there to the use of stem cells?
Have we discovered a way for adult stem cells to achieve plasticity or is this still under investigation? One difference between embryonic and adult stem cells is that embryonic stem cells have plasticity or the ability to change into all cell types and tissues in your body whereas adult stem cells can only change into the specific cell from the tissue it was taken from. Scientific articles are saying that adult stem cells can also achieve plasticity, but is this only a theory or has it been scientifically proven? If adult stem cells also contain plasticity, then there seems no point in using embryonic stem cells anymore because adult stem cells would be just as effective and not involve the destruction of embryos.
Sickle Cell cured... but without embryonic stem cells. Is following God maybe right? So we go down this path thinking we have to kill evolving babies to save lives and right here under our noses, we find by forcing avoidance of such thing, we might have came up with a major cure. This is just in... Scientist cured Sickle Cell Anemia in mice. In fact they don't know how they could have done it with embryonic stem cells. They did it with "embryo-like" stem cells from mice tails. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071206/ap_on_sc/stem_cells_sickle_cell Maybe by following God's wishes we make things better for all instead of preventing good things. Bryan the bible uses the word "murder" as abortion is a nice word thought up by those that wants to fool you into believing it is a medical term instead of what it really is. Just cells and parasites at that, right Bryan? And a fetus is such a great big complicated word, it certainly doesn't mean baby, right? I've been in the medical field too long Bryan, and no longer impressed with medical terms. It wasn't Roe v. Wade that made abortion possible or popular, but a doctor. One that has done more abortions than any other living doctor. See what you think about his medical terms, Bryan. This is the Father of legalized abortion in the USA: http://www.aboutabortions.com/Confess.html And how he and Betty Friedan got it started with NARAL: http://www.pregnantpause.org/abort/remember-naral.htm And how many years have you been in the research world, Corrosion? LOL! I was probably working on monoclonal antibodies before you were born.
