Anyone here study biochemistry and molecular biology?

I studied medicine in Taiwan for the past 5 yrs and got my MD. But I feel boring and tired so I want some change. I will go to some american university in the southen part to persue my PHD of biochemistry and molecular biology because I wanna do some research of basic human biology. It's very useful. Now I wonder how is the study of biochemistry? Is it difficulty? Or boring? or something else? Yes I studied it before but it was in Chinese and much easy then that was taught in the biochemistry department. So I suppose it will be a big challenge for me.

  1. But didn't you take biochemestry when you study medicine..how can you already have studey medicine without ever having study biochemestry??
  2. Well, I do - I study biochemistry and molecular cell biology at the university of Oxford (England) and am in the second year of a four year MSc. I think the subject is very interesting and relevant, difficult at times (more than medicine, going by the work that medics in my year do, which is very simple) but not too bad as long as you are fairly dedicated. It's also highly employable. But as I do take the subject, I am probably not the most objective person to ask. It really depends how you personally feel about it. In order to decide, why not read some popular biochemistry books in order to get a feeling for the subject?
  3. What about molecular virology? It's very fasinating, very complicated, and what you discover can help save lives. It's anything BUT boring, and it's hard, a thing I LOVE about it.
  4. Yes, i study molecular biology, and i think its an exciting field with a lot of controversy attached. Its not difficult if you are able to apply yourself and understand. A great school is Ohio State University, their biology dept. is fantastic, and their molecular genetics degree is quite saught after.
