Cord Blood Stem Cells Information

My female shih tzu has an umbilical cord hernia and might be pregnant. Any advice?

I did not intend to breed them just yet. I was going to have the umbilical cord hernia repaired first. She had a puppy diaper on and was on a leash while I slept. Somehow they got to eachother and they were tied in the "lovers knot" when I woke up this morning. I know pregnancy can be bad for a dog with an umbilical cord hernia but I don't know what to do. Please only serious advice. The dog can be repaired and spayed while she is pregnant? Or will the pregnancy be terminated? Let me make this clear - I am not a breeder or want to be part of a puppy mill. I am just a shih tzu owner and love the breed. I was planning to have the hernia fixed before breeding them. My female is almost two years old. I have done all the research about breeding, mating, whelping puppies and had started make the proper arrangements and getting the appropriate supplies. I know the puppy diaper wasn't supposed to prevent pregnancy! I just thought it would act as a barrier so that my male wouldn't be able to penetrate her. Some how he was able to pull the diaper completely to one side exposing the vulva. He hadn't fooled with the diaper before so I thought he wasn't smart enough to figure it out. We all sleep in my bedroom at night and they had never tried any funny business before. I realize the seriousness of this situation and will take her to the vet immediately.

  1. The vet can repair the umbilical hernia while she's being spayed. It's not too late -- please spay her right away.
  2. I would contact my Vet and discuss having the surgery or the need for it to be done now. Pregnancy is only going to make the umbilical hernia more pronounced and possibly more serious of a problem. You don't say how old your female is but perhaps it would be best to just spay her now. I suspect she is too young to be having her own puppies. Also, you need to learn a lot before breeding. You didn't even have a clue of the basics before this happened. The dog panties will not prevent breeding, they will only keep blood off of your carpet, furniture and clothing. Please, for your females' sake, have her spayed now and have that hernia repaired at the same time.
  3. Yes, you need serious advice from a vet. My advice is get her spayed and have the hernia repaired at the same time. ADDITIONAL DETAILS: Yes they can usually spay and repair a hernia at the same time. Ask your vet, but it's pretty routine. When they spay, the preganancy is terminated. Best thing given her age (I'm assuming she's pretty young).
