Cord Blood Stem Cells Information

how do you know if your babies umbilical cord is healed?

I want to give my daughter a bath!! I just don't know if I should. Her umbilical cord fell off two days ago, but it is still a little bloody. Is it ok to give her a bath now, or should I wait, and how long does it take to heal?

  1. if it fell off, its probably okay to bathe her.
  2. once it falls it is supposed to be healed if you see some blood there is because it needs to be cleaned. giving her a bath is perfectly normal you won't hurt her, i say give her a bath and clean that belly botton with a cotton ball and get rid of that excess of blood, my mid wife said once it falls you have a new belly botton
  3. as long as its off you can give her a bath. The reason why they say no bath when its on is because the water will soften it..we want it to stay dry like a scab to fall off. But since its already off, nothing to worry about!
  4. Hmm.. I am in Australia and have never heard of not bathing your child until the cord falls off! I have 3 children and have bathed them daily from the time they were born. After bathing them, we just pat dry the cord gently and we used (13 years ago when I had my first) to put surgical spirits on it to dry it out but now we just wipe around it with a cotton bud to get it clean. I would say that your baby is more than ready to be bathed. Just pat it dry after bathing her and it will be fine. Good luck!
  5. it`s o.k to give her a bath just make sure you dry her belly button site well so it will heal better it will still take about another 5 days to heal proplerly and a little blood is normal at this stage. I have had 4 children and two them are girls and due to have my 5th in august another girl. you could use a cotten tip to dry it better.
  6. go ahead and give her a bath, once it falls off then its healed.
  7. You should be able to bath straight away, ive never heard of waiting till its healed.I bathed my baby everyday from the day she was born. If the skin around it gets red then after the bath dab it with saline then dry it thoroughly, hope this helps
