- Dammit, if your dogs life or her pups life is in danger, call a friggin vet. Dont get on here asking medical questions like that.
- Good God. You have no idea what you are doing. Why are you even allowing your dog to become pregnant if you have no clue about breeding???? Geez!!! The dam (mother) should chew the cord to within an inch of the body. If she doesn't you must cut it and tie it off. The placentas can come out over the next day or two.

- Sometimes the mother doesn't chew the cord and it will need to be tied off and cut. If the placenta is not out yet, you need to make sure the cord isn't pulled tight as it can pull out and rupture the puppy. You either need to get someone over to your house that knows how to whelp puppies or call the vet and arrange to bring the mother and puppy in right away.
- Hopefully you mean the umbilical cord is still on the puppy, not connecting the puppy to the mother still. If it is still connecting the puppy to the mother then it needs to be separated right away or it will be dead very very soon. To separate it take some dental floss and tie a knot around the cord to seal it and cut it with STERILE scissors on the mother's side. If you mean it is still attached to the puppy only, don't worry it will dry up and fall off.
- This would be an excellent time to get a Vet on the phone - NOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Any Vet.
- You must be ready to tie off and cut the cord in some cases. Also, you must count and be certain she passes all placentas. If one is retained, it will cause her all kinds of problems, maybe even death. I actually prefer to tie off the cords and cut them so the mother doesn't chew one off too short causing the possibility of a puppy bleeding to death. Also, sometimes the mother's brisk pulling and tugging on the cord as she chews it off can cause an umbilical hernia. You can use dental floss to tie it off and good, disinfected, sharp scissors to cut the cord.
- Just pinch it and tie it then cut it. Then pull the remainder out of Mom and either let her eat it or dispose of it. If the puppy is crawling around, chances are the cord has stopped pulsating, and it won't bleed if you cut it. This isn't an emergency. She just has to pass the placenta.
