Stem Cells?
Do you think stem cells are promising?? or are scientists weaving a false hope for them??

- I think they are promising. Currently, stem cells are our best hope for regrowing cells that don't regenerate themselves such as brain cells. It IS still early, but I believe that in the future, stem cells will make scientific breakthroughs and help seemingly helpless people.
- It depends on what type of stem cell you are talking about. Adult stems cells have tons of promise! They have produced results in lots of areas like diabetis and spinal cord injuries. Embryonic stem cells however still have not produced one single breakthrough. check out http://www.family.org/socialissues/A000000373.cfm for more detailed info.
- I have to question it - if stem cells were as promising as the government keeps claiming, more private companies (such as pharm companies, research hospitals, etc) would be putting money toward the research. There's just not the evidence that stem cells can do anything to get the companies on board. I think there's a chance they could do something for people, and we won't know what until we can understand how stem cells work more completely, but I think it's insulting to keep expecting the taxpayers to foot all the bills for research when they haven't shown they can do anything.
