What can go wrong while saving my baby's cord blood ?
I heard that in case of a weather emergency or a black-out the doctor might not be able to save my baby's cord blood is that true ? What are some other things that might happen that the cord blood bank won't tell you?

- (1) The cord blood sample could get lost by the courier or the bank. (2) Contamination of your baby's cord blood sample is a risk. (3) Another risk is that there could be a natural disaster (hurricane, tornado, earthquake, etc.) at the site where your blood is stored that could interrupt consistent long term storage of your sample. So if you bank, be sure to choose a bank that has prepared for all these possibilities. That means you should look for a bank with a storage facility in a location where such natural disasters are unlikely. Be sure your bank has electric generators and automated reserve liquid nitrogen storage units to keep your baby's cord blood frozen and of highest quality if any sort of power outage should occur. Be sure the label on your sample can not be detached. Based on those criteria, I'd strongly recomend sticking to one of the larger and most experienced banks like CBR or Viacord.
