What are the benefits of letting the cord blood finish pumping into the baby after birth?
I've heard that letting your baby enjoy the last few pumps of cord blood before you cut it is very beneficial. In fact, the younger generation of doctors at my hospital are starting to practice this, but what is the exact reasoning behind it?

- As long as the cord is pulsing baby continues to get blood, oxygen, and nutrients from the placenta. Why not let her get the most that she can, it certainly isn't detrimental.
- It allows baby to be given his/her whole allotment of nature-given blood and iron. Cutting the cord deprives them of part of their blood and iron stores. You should wait till the cord has gone limp and stops pulsing.
- My mom did this with my brother and now he is retarded.
- None really I would think but i'm no Doctor! Once your born your born, there is no need for the cord, you are born, breathing on your own and able to take nurtients through your mouth! Enjoy the miracle of childbirth, don't overwork this one, Having a child, it really is the most joyful occaision life has to offer, Then i'm a man I didn't have to suffer the pain i only watched the miracle unfold before me!
