Umbilical Cord?
2 questions.... 1) how long does it take for baby's umbilical cord to fall off? 2) what acctually decides wether you have an 'innie' or and 'outie' belly button??

- It should only take about one week or 8 days for it to fall. You should clean it everytime you change the diaper.
- my first son's cord fell off at 4 weeks, my second son's fell off at about 2 weeks. i think the way it is tired
- it can take days to a couple months. the innie or outie is determined by where the cord decides to "die" at & fall off. They clamp it, but it usually dies at a part closer to the body & falls off from there.
- It ranges for 2 weeks to 1+ months. To help it heel and come off faster get a q-tip and rub alcohol around it so it can dry up faster and you can do it everythime you change his/her diaper. I don't know about the 2nd question, sry = )
- It usually falls off before two weeks. In the past, parents were told to clean the cord with alcohol or a damp cloth at diaper changes, but I believe the new advice is that it is better to simply leave it alone. Keep it dry, watch for signs of infection, but there really isn't any need to do anything with it beyond that. As far as "innie" or "outie" belly buttons, I believe it is simply a matter of how it heals. For some people, the scar goes in. For others, it protrudes slightly.
- It can take a few days up to 2 weeks. U need to really dry it out with rubbing alchol for the umb. cord to fall off. I believe it's how u care for the belly button that determines weather it's an innie or outie. When putting the diaper on the baby, make sure that u cover the belly button and the diaper is on very snug not loose. U do this as soon as the umbillical cord falls off for the baby to have an innie.
- about a week from memory for it to fall off and i think its the way its cut at birth that determinds weather its a innie or outie
- It should take 3-8 days for the cord to fall off but for some reason predominantly in the US it seems to be taking some up to 6-8 weeks and that's being called "normal". As far as I know innnie vs outie has to do with the way the abdominal wall hole closes. Alcohol makes it take longer to fall off and and at best doesn't prevent infection and in some studies it actually increases the rate of infection.
