Umbilical cord bleeding 3 weeks after stump fell off?
My daughter is six weeks old and her umbilical cord fell off at 3 weeks. Today there is some dried blood on her belly button and in her onesie. Is it normal for there to be bleeding this late after her cord fell off? Should I call the doctor or wait and see if there is any more bleeding? Ok I called the Doctor, they said as long as there is no blood trickling out, no fever or smell to it, it's normal. Whew! Thanks!

- I would call the doctor. That way they can direct you on the right course of care you need to take. You don't want to risk infection. Good luck.
- I would call a info line if there is one in your area, if not a simple call to th nurses station will be able to direct you to what is needed to be done. In the mean time treat her belly button like the stump is still there at every changing.
- It Might be just dry, but better safe than sorry, call the dr. Good luck, and Congrats, Mom!
- My daughter's umbilical cord bled for 3 days after it fell off, then it scabbed and healed. I would call the doctor and see if a trip there is necessary. They might just tell you to avoid the area and allow it heal on its own, unless it shows sign of infection. Good luck!
- Take baby to see dr this happened to my little one we was told his belly button had over healed and was given a antibacterial steroid cream to aply on it, with in couple of days was cleared up. But every so often it does get a bit sore whre we just have to add a little cream. ♥Midnight~Angel♥
