  1. i plan on keeping it in the little zip bag the hospital put the clamp in,, but they used a blue dye type stuff on it that dried it up, so i dont think it will rot.
  2. Well the little stump that is left over is dried up so I don't think it's possible for it to go rotten. But when my daughters fell off I thought I would keep it - but when I saw what it looked like I gave that a second thought!
  3. It just looks like a little scab. I considered keepting it, but thought it was a little too weird.....though I don't have anything against anyone else keeping it if they felt it was necessary to do so. I did keep the little clip that they attached and twisted the cord with though.
  4. My Uncle Chris saved his first daughter umbilical stump. Its in a sealed plastic container. It looks like a black rotten carrot, very dehydrated looking. I don't think it rots if its not exposed to air.
  5. I taped it into my baby's baby book.....kinda weird I guess but I thought it would be kinda cool for her to see it when she gets older....
  6. I never thought to keep it, however Ive heard of women doing it for keepsake purposes. I dont think its incredibly odd. I probably would have done the same, if....(this is what IS gross...) My daughters fell off in the middle of the night as I was pacing the house, trying to get her to go to sleep....it fell on the floor..and my dog ate it before I could get it from him. Yuck!
  7. I didn't have a choice whether to keep it or not. His stump fell off and fell on the floor, by the time I realized it the dog had eaten it. Talk about EWW.
  8. I know lots of people to keep them, but I didn't want it. It's pretty gross. I felt guilty though for throwing away a piece of her body, so my dad threw it away after I left their house.
  9. I gave my daughters belly button to my grand mother. It didnt rot.
  10. I couldn't wait for it to fall off my son. As soon as it fell off I trashed it. Its just a piece of petrified skin at that point. Many people choose to keep it. I don't understand why. I wonder if those who keep it also keep every hair that is clipped and every nail that is clipped and every tooth that comes out. GROSS.
  11. Some people do that, I didn't though I couldn't imagine keeping it and it grossed me out instead I kept the usual hospital bracelet and the clip they used for the umbilical cord. Once it fell off I threw it away and just wrote the date, the time and how it fell off in her baby book.
