Cord Blood Banking?

We can't afford to bank the babies cord blood, but I know how beeficial it is. Is there some way I can donate it so even though we can't store it some other child could benefit?

  1. There are some public core blood banks you can donate to. Check with your doctor and hospital to see if they participate.
  2. from what I understand about the cord blood the baby needs it's own to help it, I think it has to do with DNA and blood types and so on. But I dont think it can be used by other babies'
  3. yup, they will ask you during your admittance at the hospital if you'd like to donate it. **jr---it is just like bone marrow, so long as it matches the other baby, it is then safe to use.
  4. Yes, there is a way to donate cord blood. http://www.cordus.com/whydonate.htm This is one site of many. For one baby's cord blood to be able to save another person is similar to bone marrow donations. It's a long shot but always possible.
