- Are you using a cotton swab to wipe it with alcohol?
- That's not normal and you need to be sure that you are cleaning the stump with alcohol every time you change the diaper. I would call the dr. and see if you need to bring the baby in.. Good luck
- It is very normal for that to be happening. As long as you keep treating it with the alcohol pads and cleaning it at least 3 times a day it will be fine. The only thing that you would have to be concerned about is if it starts to get bright red and seems very painful to the touch. Good Luck!!
- Be sure to clean it well at every diaper change. If it doesn't seem more irritated or isn't oozing or looking infected you should be ok. You can call the nurses at the Dr's office and run it by them, just to be safe.
- don't worry, it will fall off by itself. Sounds like it is about to come off anyway. Use a cotton ball and GENTLY dab the spot with witch hazel. This will prevent infection, but honestly, it's not necessary.
- yes it should be fine. It is basically dead tissue and will smell rather bad until it drops off. So long as there is no soreness/redness in the area round it and nothing like puss coming out. Try to keep it dry by turning down the waist of the nappy at the front and it will simply dry out and drop off in no time
- http://www.blackwell-synergy.com/doi/abs/10.1111/j.1552-6909.1998.tb02631.x Conclusions: (a) Evidence does not support continued use of alcohol for newborn cord care; (b) health care providers should explain the normal process of cord separation, including appearance and possible odor; and (c) health care providers should continue to develop evidence to support or eliminate historic practices.
