my dr is allowing for me to have my c section anytime after my 38th week after May 9th.?
We had an ultrasound at 35 weeks and my baby has her umbilical cord around her neck but my dr said she should be fine and having a c section would be best. Not sure what date to choose after the 9th of may. I know at 38th week it is okay to deliver a newborn baby and she will be fine but not sure if I should wait another week or so to be on the safe side. any suggestions.

- My little girl was born naturally at 38 weeks with the cord around her neck and she almost was choked because it was so tight. C-section is the best and i would have chosen to have one if my midwife had of picked it up. What ever day you want just make sure it's not mothers day thats a day for u. Good luck
- I'm an impatient person so I'd say the very first day they have available! lol
- i wouldn't wait i'd have her taken out asap after the date the doctor says..the longer she is in the bigger she will grow making the cord get tighter
- i wouldnt wait any longer than a week after your 38th, that way, it gives her just a little more time, but doesnt go too long. you can always schedule a date and if you get too uneasy, call your dr and change your delivery date to a little sooner. i have to have cesareans every time and my dr wont let me go past 37 weeks, due to uterine rupture from previous surgeries, but thats a different story. anyway. i would say set a date and change it if you feel you need to. i really hope this rambling didnt confuse you or make your eyes cross. good luck to you and God bless. i hope you have a safe and easy delivery.
- I would think that they wouldn't wait for the c-section. I think your right I wouldn't want to wait another week extra. Though the baby is getting air from you. Its when your going through labor that it will lose that connection that you are supplying.
- About 1 in 5 babies have their cords around their necks. It is only very very very rarely a problem, even i the cord is wrapped around multiple times! The cord carries oxygenated blood to your baby even when its around the neck. You just unwind the cord when they're born. I recommend a vaginal birth. Obstetricians are so overeager to do unnecessary c/s. Did you know that c/s have twice the maternal death rate of vaginal births? And that's for *healthy women with no complications*, we're not talking about emergency c/s. Really really think about this. C/s are *not* a fun or easy option, and your pain in recovering from the major abdominal surgery that it is will be longer and harder than recovering from a vaginal birth. In any case, since there's no rush, you should definitely wait until 40 weeks for a c/s, if you decide to go ahead with that. Why risk delivering a premmie baby with undeveloped lungs? :)Bronwyn
