umbilical cord?
My son is 12 days old and the stump of his umbilical cord fell off but the inside of his belly button looks as if it still contains part of the cord. I am not sure if the stump got caught on something and was pulled off or what because earlier today it didn't seem as if it was ready to come out. Is this normal? Any suggestions. I am concerned.

- take him to the doc.
- If it's not red, or oozing, it's fine. Just keep washing it with soap and water (no rubbing alcohol).
- Just continue to wipe the cord area with alcohol another week or two and the rest will come off. Don't worry so much pop......
- ask a doctor
- Yes it's normal. You can put some rubbing alcohol on the remaining stub once-twice a day. It helps the leftover cord fall off, and kill any bacteria.
- Clean it daily with rubbing alcohol on the end of a q-tip. If there is any of the cord left it will dry up quickly and fall off. The alcohol not only dries up the cord, it disinfects the area also. All of us old moms used this method--and all of you young-uns turned out just fine (smile).
- it is normal. the cord had already dry so it fall off naturally. don't do anything regarding your son's button. its quite normal. as long when you put diapers it should be below the umbilicus or what you call button.
