Has anyone banked umbilical cord cells? If so, what company did you choose?
I am trying to decide which company to go with, and it's very confusing. Any facts you have are appreciated! I'm looking at Viacord or CBR.

- I would love to help you but unfortunatly I"m still trying to figure out the umbilical cord thing myself.
- I'm really interested in this myself. My hospital offers it and I think I'll just go through them.
- I banked all of my kids cord blood. It was the best thing I did, my son got lukemia. Now he is very very healthy because of all the things they could do with that cord blood. We went with vista cord for all three and are planning the same for our forth. I have also heard good things of Viacord, my cousin used them.
- i want to know about this too, is it too late for 4 months now?
- Please do some research on this before signing up and be sure you want to do this ~ it's a lot of money. Don't get me wrong my childrens well being is worth any price but before my first child was born I was looking into it and I read an article that intrigued me. It was either in Parenting or Parents magazine. There is a lot of hype around storing cord blood in case your child develops a disease. While there are many cases it can save a child, in many instances the cord blood is carrying the same disease your child has and you would have to look to an anonymous bank to find a match and use that rather than the one you've been paying to store. The blood cells can only be used for a certain period as well. Once your child reaches a certain weight (I believe 90 lbs.) there is not enough to make an impact. The final conclusion of the article was that these people prey on parents. They charge obscene amounts of money and they know that parents will go to any lengths for their children. We did some more research on it and found all these things to be true. Certainly not information Viacord or CBR are going to share with potential clients. We decided to donate to an anonymous bank. It is free and it is more likely you would use an anonymous donoation if needed. Our hospital gave us the info. on the anonymous bank. I'm not trying to talk you out of this ~ just wanted to share some facts that I found. Good Luck!
- Perhaps you should look into delayed cord cutting instead. Babies do much better getting the rest of the blood from the placenta. Babies are supposed to get it. Only recently[last 100yrs] has quick cord clamping become popular.[and mostly in America] It also allows baby tp ease into breathing. Babe get oxygen from the cord while taking its first breaths. The first breath is extremely painful, if not connected to the placenta still.
