Stem Cell Research?
http://www.yahoo.com/s/598311 I think this is great! I do not agree with using embryos for this, but if they can use skin cells to the same effect, wouldn't you donate? On the same subject, I am interested in donating (not storing) my umbilical cord to a blood bank for the whole stem cell thing... but I am overseas and the military doc I have says I have to get the kit myself. Does anyone know how to get this kit? I stuck it here because Politics seems to get more answers than medical, and stem cells seem to be a very politically hot issue whenever they're brought up. One other slight snag... I'll be giving birth in Japan... and the places I've found online all want face to face interviews. All this hassle just to help... oh well... its worth it...

- Absolutely..... this research is amazingly useful for so many reasons people just don't understand! I'd donate in a second! Still searching for the kit.............................
- "...(T)he embryonic stem-cell researchers have produced nothing. They have treated nothing. They have not even begun one human clinical trial. They've successfully treated a few rodents, but they are running into two problems. First, the cells tend to be rejected by the immune system. Second, they tend to cause malignancies called teratomas -- meaning "monster tumors." The idea that stem cells are on the verge of curing anything is absurd. It's possible embryonic stem-cell research could find a cure for Alzheimer's disease someday only in the sense that it possible that a biologist's toenail clippings could be used to find a cure for Alzheimer's someday."
- It would be better to ask this in a medical related section. I like doing research and helping people if the stuff works and doesn't kill a healthy person in the process.
- For a resource for the kit I would check the Internet or go to planned parenthood. Stem cells of adults have been very useful as has umbilical stem cells. Embryonic stems cells have not been as useful, yet.
- People always say: "How could that possibly be holy?" and I guess until you've actually watched someone sufer from the various diseases stemcells could cure, you can't understand how vile not doing it truely is. All those who oppose stemcells are evil.
