Baby Umbilical Cord?
My daughter is ten days old and I just noticed her belly button is bleeding, but her umbilical cord has yet to fall off...is this normal or should i be concerned?

- Don't worry, its normal. Just keep cleaning it with alcohol swabs or qtips dipped in alcohol. It will dry up and fall off soon. Bleeding is normal too.
- It really depends on the site, is it alot? Make sure to use alcohol everyday, everytime you change her diaper. If you still feel uncomfortable then call the Dr. that is what they are there for.
- thyis happened to my son its normal just clean it with warm water and cotton wool make sure you boil the water first so that it is sterile and try to avoid clothes that may rub on it
- old wise tell get a brand new quarter soak it in acohol and place over her navel but first put vasoline and in 2 weeks it should fall off
- Most likely the cord got caught by the edge of the diaper and pulled it to the point of bleeding. As long as the bleeding has stopped, there is no cause for alarm. Keep the area clean and dry. The cord will probably fall off before the week is out. Meantime, try to put the diaper on so that it can't reach the cord. My advice is NOT to put a covering on the cord, and especially not a coin. Some of those old wives were smart, but the one that recommended that technique didn't practice evidence based medicine.
