- Its normal for the tied portion to blacken and drop off. call your midwife or hospital to ask for advice about antiseptics if needed tho
- When it gets to the smelly point, it's close to dropping off. Just keep the pus wiped clean with peroxide or alcohol. It's normal.
- It is not being kept clean enough and has gotten infected. She needs an anti-biotic ointment now. Clean it with peroxide, anything else will hurt her.
- i read somewhere that that a bad smell may be an infection...go check with her ped just in case
- smell is not normal i have a baby and have allot of siblings so let me tell you that is not normal, it's not suppose to smell at all so take her to the doctor as soon as you can it can become more serious later on take care of that beautiful child of yours
- No, it's not. It sounds like she/he may have an infection. Take her to the doc ASAP. One thing that's pretty common, is people not keeping them dry enough. My sons' pediatrician said no baths, no lotions around there, and not to put him in onesies, as it keeps air from getting to it. So once you get her/him the once over, make sure to follow whatever directions you're given. My doc told me to pull on it very gently to expose the base, and wipe it with alcohol at every changing. It bothered me to do that, but I did and everything is fine.
- I took my first baby to the doctor in a rush because the umbilical cord had a bad smell. The doctor very gently told me that it was rotting flesh and you wouldnt expect a great smell. If you are in doubt see your doctor but it was normal in my case. For all the people who said to put alcohol, etc on the stump, the standard now is natrual umbilical cord care. You do nothing except keep it dry and wait for it to fall off.
- Its normal, wipe it with alochol swabs
