Question about umbilical cord healing?
My baby is a week and a half old. I took her to the doctor with some concerns yesterday, and she goes back for her 2 week check up in 1 week. The doctor said that her cord looked ok, but I do not remember either of my other daughters' looking this way. Has anyone had a baby with a small amount of bleeding at the base of the cord when it has halfway fallen off? Her cord is detached at the top portion, but still attached at the bottom half. It has a litttle bit of blood underneath where it is detached.

- My son's had that and my doctor said it was normal and to just keep it clean and dry until the rest fell off.
- My youngest had something similar. Our previous 3 never did. It eneded up being nothing to worry about, and healed well.
- yes - my baby's cord was attached for so long the doctor had to take a q-tip and "poke" around on it. It did bleed a little - Just keep taking care of it. Remember to fall off it has to dry out so don't get it wet
- My second child did that, and it was fine. I put a little bit of iodine on it with a cotton ball and tape just to keep it from infection. (Old Family Trick) Have Fun With The New Baby!
- my granddaughters did this just make sure its not a lot of blood a little is OK.
- Yes its normal, don't worry, just make sure you keep it clean and dry and let nature take is course
- Us older women used a cotton ball and a little rubbing alcohol! We also used belly bands. just a cotton belt about 3 or 4 inches wide wrapped around the babies mid section. This kept the cord from getting irritated from the clothes and diapers. But now they recommend letting air dry it up! It is very normal for there to be a little blood. Just keep it clean and dry! Congratulations on your new baby! My 10th grandchild will be born today!
