Cord Blood Stem Cells Information

My babys umbilical cord came off early...?

She was born dec 6th. A week after I had her I let a family member change her diaper and they did it to tight and it pushed the cord off. it was still attached but only by a little tiny string, and it was a little bloody and it has a little puss on it, and it was open like you could still see inside her belly, it was pink and when she cried it popped out. Its now been a while its not bleeding but its still looks a bit red and is still pussing a little bit. Which is usually dried and kinda green yellow looking. Its not open alot really anymore but when she pushes her stomache out it still looks a little open and pink. Should I put neosporin on it or bacitracin or something? Im not sure because its still a little open. I got to the docs monday. And I have been cleaning it with alcohol often. I called the doc when it happend and he told me to put alcohol on it but he never said anything about ointment. I want to know if people think its safe to put ointment on.

  1. keep it clean and dry. it's fine. buy a book about parenting in the first year and start learning to depend on the pediatrician.
  2. That's is about the right time, that it falls off. Don't put nothing on it not even rubbing alcohol. My daughter's fell off in a week and it look nasty but it will heal.
  3. Only put alcohol on it after she gets out of the bath to dry moisture...too much will irritate it. It's fine, 1 week is not too early. My daughters lasted about a week and a half, then bleed a little when it fell off. Ask the Dr. on monday but just keep clean and dry.
  4. With both of my children the cord stump came off in like 7 - 10 days. However, there was no puss or blood. With my daughter (who is 2 weeks old), there is still a little bit of scabby material deep in the belly button, but it will come out eventually. I don't want to sound like I am lecturing you, but you probably should have called the doctor when it first came off because it could be/get infected if the wound is still open. At this point, waiting for the appointment is probably fine though. Don't put anything on it until you talk to the doctor, just keep it clean and dry. Also, the alcohol isn't necessary and if the wound has any openings it probably burns like heck for you little one. I didn't use alcohol with my daughter and it fell off at 7 days, and I did with my son and it fell off at 10 days. Good luck!
  5. I think you are doing the best you can do till monday ...My little girls came off on the 21st and she was born the 13 th of december but it was because the dr pulled on it a little to hard when I took her in for her one week check up and it to bled for a few days but its better now...Let me know how everything is going:) Hope it gets better soon!!!
