Still having umbilical cord problems...?
My daughter is seven weeks old and lost her cord around 2 weeks. it wont stop scabbing. Now i just started to pick the scab out when i am cleaning it, and it looks like the is something like extra skin? or like pink and it bleeds a tiny bit? i am going to call her doctor but im just very concerned about what this is and she wont be able to go until monday? has this happened to any one else? Her cord fell off when she was 2 weeks old and wont stop scabbing... I was told a little bit of blood was normal.. this is where it gets soo confusing.

- Umbilical cords do not need to be cleaned or washed or anything. They should be left alone and ignored. They will fall off when they are ready. Don't pick at it or try to clean it anymore.
- Absolutely do not pick at that scab! Umbilical cords do not need to be cleaned, they heal on their own. You could be causing more damage by cleaning it. You definitely can be opening up a whole world of possible infections by picking at the scab. Do not clean or touch it again until you see the doctor.
- I was told at the hospital when my friend had her baby to lightly clean the area around gently with alcohol and NOT to pick the scab LEAVE it alone even if it is very small and if there is any bleeding to call the doctor.
- my bby's also fell of at two weeks....it healed completely at one and a half months. she had somewhat of a pink stump left over where her cord fell of at. i thought it was weird and was very comcerned. my advice is leave it alone it will heal on its own. long as it doesnt get greenish and/or smelly, baby will be ok. dont freak out. my baby is almost 3 mo now and i can stil feel a little tiny scab in her belly button, it will go away/fall on it's own
