  1. My babies umbilical cord took a little over 2 weeks to come off and the base of it was still on we had to take her to the doctors and he out some stuff on it to dry it out I think now they say about 2 weeks
  2. You are doing the right thing by not picking at it of rubbing it. Just clean it once a day with warm water on a washcloth and it should be falling off shortly, No need to worry about it falling off later, its sooner you could have been worried about, many parents pick at it and it falls off too early causing bleeding and possible infections. Good parenting!
  3. Happened to me with the first baby...you need to get someone who has had a baby come over and show you how to really clean the stump...you need to get a Q-tip and get down around the base of the thing...the first kid I was afraid I'd hurt him and so I wasn't cleaning it well enough to get it dried out...the doctor had to take it off. With the second kid I had more confidence and got that sucker really cleaned with alcohol at ever diaper change and it came off in just a couple days! My best friend had a baby a few months ago and was having the same trouble. I cleaned it when I went to visit and showed her how...it came off the next day.
  4. Are you putting alcohol on it with every diaper change?? you should be and it will fall off on its own soon.
  5. It normally takes about 2 weeks or longer for the umbilical cord to fall off. When it does, it wont look like a perfect belly button. You will want to pat the area with a warm wash cloth. Where will be alittle blood, when it dries; make sure to hold a warm washcloth to this to loosen it up and get it out of there. Everything is normal if it hasn't fallen off yet, don't worry! PS DON'T PUT ALCOHOL ON IT!
  6. Don't worry honey...I have a 11 day old and his cord stump just fell off this evening.....the girls are telling you the right thing...(in not worrying, it can take up to two weeks sometimes a lil' longer. ) The doctor's/nurses advised me to clean the stump with every diaper change, using alcohol & q-tips. I also used a cotton ball. I did it with all my kids (this is my 3rd) You do have to get down in there and clean it good, like the girls said. And on occasion you might see a drop or two of blood, nothing to be alarmed about....just clean it with every diaper change and it will fall off on it's own.... Good Luck......
  7. Just let it be! If it doesn't fall off on its own, at his 2 week well baby appt, the doctor will see if it is ready to come off. I know for my first, the doctor at her 2 week appt said the umbilical cord was being held on by dry blood and nothing more. He took something gentle to it and it came right off! Nothing to worry about!
