Is it time to cut the umbilical cord????
For hundreds of years people have edured natural disasters. After Katrina, more aid and assistance was handed our and MORE QUICKLY than any other in history. It was the first time in history that people were put up in hotels at the government expense. It is also the first time in history that this level of complaining and crabbing has ever taken place. Government help in this situation is a "NICITY" not a right! SUCK IT UP ALREADY!!!! Get back to work like the rest of us who have endured losses.

- Ah! You racist, I'm calling the ACLU! lol! But no, the liberals want this country to follow the dangerous path of socialism and let Big Brother take care of everything and everyone's problems.
- So you're going to say that the people who were stranded in that sports arena for days, thought the government was doing all they could, as fast as they could? That's not what the news reported and that's not what the people stranded there and on roof tops said.

- It was the state and local government that set up the welfare disaster that Katrina uncovered. Florida and Texas also get hit with the same strength hurricanes, Florida more frequently, where is the public out cry? Where is their overwhelming aid? When will people learn the welfare state doesn't work?
- Agreed, with this exception. The government had the levees built. The levees did not sustain the force that they were suppose to. Thus the government paid and then some. So it IS time for the citizens to move on. With leaders such as Vitter, Jefferson, Blanco, and Nagin, the odds are not in their favor. They should consider moving the city inland X miles. Why rebuild in a disaster zone? edit: If N.O. were in a Dem state, would they fair better? Not trying to be funny. It is something that just came to mind. Has there been disaters in a Dem state and if so, how did they fair? Or does it make a difference in the first place?
- we have became a generation that depends upon the gov to take care of our ever need. The system has always and always will be abused. It is a way of life for many. The politicians need their votes
- There are three among us that will answer all of your complaints, and even give you a bonus answer concerning your president's reaction to Katrina. Here are the names of the Three. 1. The Father 2. The Son 3. The Holy Ghost He who has ears to hear, let him hear.
- Did you hear that the illustrious mayor of New Orleans is thinking about running for Gov. of LA? What then? An entire state living off of the public trough? I agree with you. It's time to move on.
- Great point...How did they survive before hurricane early warning? Or how did they survive the oppressive heat without air conditioning? Makes you wonder what happened to us...... Chi - Yes the Gov built the levees, and tried to place flood gates in 1977. The enviro-mental-ists filed suit to stop the wetlands from being destroyed and even though the Army Corp told the judge the loss of life would be in the 1000's, he granted the wishes of the crazy's. So don't blame the Government, they tried to fix it long ago...
- It should have been cut a long long time ago. i am so sick of New Orleans.
- You are a liar and enjoy giving misinformation. What losses have you endured? you are generalizing.
- well... you talk about a lot... but I'm not sure all those are facts? also it's probably the costliest disaster in American history and probably affected about the greatest number of people... it was a whole coast in several states... and most have gotten back to work? this is that "compassionate conservative" attitude at work again...
- I agree that all layers of government were complicate in the handling of Katrina. The individual, Nagen,Governor, Congressmen&Senetors and the Pres. What this should show every American is the impotence for handling a real crisis. Wake-up
- YEAH!
- welfare states are created in such ways, as is dependance on a government instead of ones self...
- Chi, maybe you missed it, but Louisianna is a Democratic State, Democratic Gov, Democratic mayor in N.O. As to those that ask what losses you've encured, I don't know about Ex Dem, but my home was totaled in 1994 during a storm in Ks. My boss in Tx has had his home completely destroyed by tornados twice, acquaintances of ours lost everything they owned in Greensburg Ks this yr, and years ago my father in law lost all his crops in Illinois to a storm. I've never heard any one of these people ask where the government help was. My father in law got low interest LOANS from the Ag Dept, but they had to be paid back and were. In my case, I took the insurance money, paid off what I owed on my home and bought another. My boss has rebuilt twice, and the people of Greensburg are rebuilding, they are receiving help, but never demanded it. It's time to help themselves. Even my relatives in northern Louisianna are tired of the complaining.
