Cord Blood Stem Cells Information

Why do Christians think embryonic stem cells are considered life?

I don't see anything in the bible that states this. If it takes sperm and egg to make an embryo, wouldn't letting sperm and egg go to waste be considered murder? Also why is it that a dot with no cognitive functions not be allowed to save a living breathing human being who is ill? Wouldn't not saving a human be considered murder? Most embryonic stem cells today that are not used are thrown away. Should the person who threw them away be condemned for murder? BTW I am a Christian.

  1. my friend has diabetes that will eventually kill him, and I don't see why the government can't help him w/ stem cell, a working, providing man. instead, they wanna save something that isn't even alive and has no feelings. i know it sounds cruel but shouldn't we save the people actually suffering and not something that doesn't feel?
  2. I really don't understand it either. They consider it that the embryo could one day be life, and so destroying it is bad. But that would mean every wet dream and every female menstrual cycle would be bad, because that's wasted dna that could one day form a life. I mean where do you stop? I think if a tiny little stem cell could one day make it to where paralyzed people can walk again, let them do the stem cell research. They're not kidnapping people off the streets and stealing their embryos. Edit: And by the way, not all stem cells come from aborted fetuses.
  3. Not the cells, but the embryo that they are taken from when it is destroyed certainly is.
  4. It's not the stem cells themselves it is how they plan to get them. My understanding is that they would come from aborted fetus'.
  5. I don't know enough about embryonic stem cells to have an opinion.
  6. Embryonic stem cells have not helped out at all, but Adult stem cells have helped out 73 times. If it was such a good idea, why does this project need Government grants? If they were any good, private investors would be jumping through hoops to invest their money so that they could make money.
  7. An aborted baby is life. Using stem cells from an aborted baby would be supporting abortion. I think stem cell research is good only when the baby died of natural causes or if he/she needed to be aborted to save the mother.
  8. I think the irony is that many of them claim that they are protecting life. If they value life so much, why discard of the stem cells that could potentially be used to save a life? The embryos have no central nervous system and therefore cannot think or suffer. Whatever happens to it cannot matter to it as it has no sense of consciousness - it cannot be considered a person.
  9. It is actually up to the parents to decide about the stem cells. And with that said there are millions of people who know nothing about what it does so it does get thrown away. A nurse or anybody else cant be blamed when it is the person whos body it came from's decision. And as far as embryos, the joined sperm and egg, no it isnt murder because there is no life until the blood from the mothers womb enters it. The life is in the blood. (Lev 17:11, Lev 17:14, Deut 12:23, John 6:53-54) To eat the flesh and drink the blood is to partake of the body of Christ. You must become a part of the Church which is the body and be in fellowship to truly experience communion.
  10. Most of them probably don't even understand what it is. All they care about is that they have been given the impression that somehow it is taking a chip out of their precious religious beliefs, and therefore has to go.
  11. Kobe, you nailed it with the word "cognitive". The Roman Catholic Church claims that an embryo is an "individual". As you know, they have fertility clinics where they literally throw out these embryos after a while. Fundamentalist Catholics and Christians claim it is murder. If the embryo or fetus doesn't have awareness or cognition, how can that be an individual or being? Scientists say the embryo doesn't have brain activity till around the 7th month. Prior to that, how can that be murder of an individual? I agree, that late term abortions could be classified as murder, but not early on. The religious people, instead of using their God given brains, are just brain washed by their religious leaders. Fear of fire is a very powerful tool. It ain't love as they say, either.
