Embryonic Stem Cells - What is your opinion?
When a cell nucleus is transferred to another cell, have we created life? Does a stem cell have the same status as a human? What should be done with the embryos that are left over at IVF clinics?

- I have issues with Embryonic stem cells. I am completely in the middle. I think we can use them to cure the many diseases that ravage the human life. But i have worries that so much potential life would be killed. What if all these people that make a difference these days are used for embryonic stem cells? If abortion is not considered illegal. Then neither should embryonic stem cells. At least the babies getting aborted can be used for a good cause. They are related. if one is illegal then so is the other, and vice versa.
- I don;t think the government needs to be funding this research.
- Strictly speaking, we DID NOT create life. See...although we manage to 'make' a human, it doesnt mean we 'created' one. Since the origins of stem cells are from existing life while we, the meddlesome creatures, TRANSFER [as u said] the center of life ie nucleus, to ANOTHER living cell which is previously denucleated. From another aspect but the same idea, do u think conceiving NATURALLY as 'creation of life'? well, to me, creation of life means the process of turning something dead or lifeless into a new life. Jz like the hypothesis of Prebiotic soup or Iron sulphur theory. So, from the two points, i cn deduce that, in my own conviction, embryonic stem cell is NOT or anything close to LIFE creation. The other matter bout the IVF clinics' excess embryos...morally speaking, they shud be cryogenically preserved until anyone else wants them. If no one really wants them, they shud be then discarded. Not to say i m cruel, but since the sin or vice has already been initiated [since the process of creating embryo is not something ethical while the intention of 'making' them shud bring the ppl involved down the road to foresee the wastage of extra embryos], and the process seems to be irreversible, i dont think it is bout ethics already.
- Because Stem Cell research is heavily regulated Researchers have developed techniques to use the Placenta along with the fluids that are in the womb and this will be the next source of research material
- as long as no baby;s are being killed for that sole purpose if they could use the parts of the babies being born ;like the cord.that would be ok,,
- I am very much for embryonic stem cell research. Think about it, one life in sacrifice for many. I believe that this research can cure many lives and that we can find ways to fix whatever defects a person might be born with. Someday we can choose what our offspring might look like. It is a very exciting field of study. For those against it, think about this... If you were in a building with your son sitting next to you and a cartload of embryoes not fully formed yet off to your left and the building started on fire who would you take outside, your son or the cart of embryonic stem cells?
- Stem cells are undifferentiated cells which have the unique potential to produce any kind of cell in the body and self-renewal capacity. Medical researchers believe stem cells have the potential to change the face of human disease by being used to repair specific tissues or to grow organs.
