  1. His cord didn't fall off till he was 4 weeks? WOW i don't think that is normal cuz my little girl lost hers when she was 5 days old. I would take him to the doc asap.
  2. Dont panic. That may just be the navel healing up finally. Not all babies lose their cord at the same age. Most doctors look for it to fall of 10 - 21 days after birth a little longer or sooner is not totally unheard of. Just let your doctor know.
  3. I'd call my Dr.
  4. I have a 6 week old and this also happened to him. It is almost gone now but his doctor told me to continue to apply alcohol to the spot and let it air dry before covering it each time I changed his diaper. This really helped dry it up faster. It is apparently a normal thing, so I don't think you have anything to worry about.
  5. My baby did not loose his until the Dr put silver nitrate on it and they did it twice before it healed up. They said as long as it was not bleeding or did not have an odor it was ok......it took a while before it finally healed up. It made me crazy. I would call your Dr. if you have any worries but I am sure it will be fine.
  6. The umbilical cord should heal within at least 2 weeks unless if it was infected. As soon as it fell off,the navel will just closed by itself in time.
  7. Continue with the alcohol, and make sure it is dry before covering it, if you show alot of blood he needs to go the pedi. to get a silver nitrate treatment to stop the blood. What I would do to be on the safe side, is call the pedi in the morn. or if he/she is not terribly busy normally then just stop in to see if he/she will take a look at it. I would just get it looked at, it is prob. not a problem but, just in case. Good luck and enjoy these "little" days you will miss them one he gets going!!!!!!
