Stem Cell Research...Would you agree?
I am all for Umbilical Cord Stem Cell research, not embryonic stem cell research. I hate the debates right now in Congress about the morality of stem cell research! Creating a national stem cell blood bank (umbilical cord blood) just like the regular blood bank would save lives. Umbilical stem cells do not take life away, it aides in saving lives. What doesn't the government get? Your opion?

- sounds good to me
- the only embryonic stem cell research is used for those marked for destruction,,,, throwing away a persons chance to live without pain or to walk again is ignorant,,,
- I agree that it would be useful in research. It's just a case of the gov't creating a smokescreen for the real issues in our country though. It's not uncommon for them to take an issue that they know will polarize the people, so they can hide agendas under the publics nose.
- I think that if you would be able to go behind the scenes you would find that it has nothing to do with lives at the government level. It has all to do with MONEY
- Hundreds of excess embryos are destroyed every day during the process of in-vitro fertilization (to ensure viable embryos 10 times the number needed are created). Proponents of embryonic stem cell research just want to use the stem cells from the embryos before they are destroyed. Also, embryonic stem cells are different than umbilical stem cells in that they have not been genetically predisposed to a certain purpose, and thus they provide a significantly greater research opportunity. For me the hypocrisy lies in the fact that it seems to be okay to destroy numerous embryos if one life is created, but it isn't okay to use those same embryos that are destined for destruction to save other lives...
- It's our president that doesn't want it...I wonder if he'd change his mind about it if one of his family members would benefit from it. I didn't vote for him.
- I feel that stem cell research should not be aloud because that's like trying to be god,and there is only one.
