opinions on cord blood banking?
i'm 21 weeks pregnant with twins. my husband and i were looking into cord blood banking and i was wondering what other's thought about it. my doctor said that if the child gets a disease that the stem cells in the cord blood would already be bad. would it make more sense to just wait and if something does happen, just get pregnant again and bank that child's cord blood? would you have it done? have you had it done? if not, why? thanks!

- With my 1st I sort of looked into but I don't have that kind of money to have it banked and then pay every month for them to keep it. My husband and I don't have strange diseases that run in our family so it wasn't a big deal for us. Maybe if were rich we would consider it.
- i think its a good idea...as far as waiting and then getting pregnant again..it could be too late by the time you have the baby to do any good. My husband went for an MRI saturday and has an EEG tomorrow to make sure he doesnt have a tumor or something in his brain (hopefully its just residual effects from a accident he had years ago) but we already know that if he does have something bad that the baby i'm pregnant with could save his life...i'm having him in 16 days and if the scans show something in my husband we're going to bank his cord blood so my husband could hopefully be treated. i'm all for it honestly. i've heard lots of stories about how its saved siblings lives!
- It's something that I have never even considered. The cord blood is only good for a certain amount of time and the cost of the storage is more than I am willing to pay knowing that the blood is only good for a certain amount of time. There are so many medical treatments that have saved lives long before people even thought to bank the baby's cord blood. Each person has to decide for themselves. It's not something that many people do just yet simply because there isn't much known about it and the cost is a bit of a hinderance. Congrats on your twins! How exciting!
- We're doing it for our baby girl. Its expensive so lots of people don't do it. We think its good peace of mind.
