Cord Blood Stem Cells Information

Why not stem cell research?

Why do so many people oppose stem cell research? YA YA YA I know the whole debate about using aborted baby’s and unused embryos,(yes I’m pro choice) But do you people opposed to stem cell reacherch know there are other sources for stem cells? Like umbilical cord blood! You can donate your baby’s umbilical cord blood after it’s born and they use the stem cells in the cord blood for research, if you don’t donate it they just throw it away. So what’s the problem with that? Ill tell you what To appease all you prolifers what do you say we stop using aborted baby’s and unused embryos for research and just use umbilical cord blood, would that make you happy? That way we can continue the life saving research and both sides will be satisfied.

  1. I believe, this is our next great step in solving serious health problems.... i would gladly donate... esp. since my youngest son has one kidney....his own cells, could have easily saved his life, had it been available to do when he was born...
  2. I say they should go for it, it will be helpfull for future generations to cure many diseases
  3. people up there have to cover their asses...main problem is by the anti-abortion lobbyists...they're afraid that people will start aborting for the money (i'm sure that'll be lots available once stem-cell research gets underway) it's not that they're blind to the possibilities; a lot of them are smart people and know that stem cell research will save and improve the quality of billions of lives in the future it's just politics, I guess...
  4. Well it's all down to the politicians and their constituents. And most of their constituents aren't aware of the umbilical cord blood way and as soon as they hear the words "stem cell" they immediately think "baby murder", just like when they hear the words "Jim Bob" and they think "great name".
  5. If the nut case conservatives keep having their way we won't have jack for stem cell research. Unless one of them could use the research to help them or their family. Then all of a sudden stem cell research isn't so bad..
  6. I am not opposed to stem cell research. I am just concerned about genetic engineering and technological issues that make human life less valuable. Read a book called A Brave New World - by Aldous Huxley. It will give you a good idea about why everyone is so concerned. It is just a matter of time when technology will replace people.
  7. I was pondering this question today. I think I have it figured out. This has nothing to do with "life" this has to do with government income. If there are great successes with this new technology the big drug companies could suffer. The money is rolling right now in the drug companies and they are paying their taxes. Stem cell technology is a baby and needs funding, no government income. When this technology works mother nature will be doing the work, non taxable.
  8. well i agree with you but bush is wayy tooooo stupid to relize tht and the advances we as a race could make with that research...
  9. sounds good to me.....
  10. not much has been done, but what has been done seems to say "this stuff rocks"
  11. Most people that I know, myself included, are only opposed to embryonic stem cell research, I have not issue with adult, or any other kind of stem cell research. I think you solution is a good one.
  12. I am all for stem-cell research. Do as you please with 'em!
  13. You should ask the question.....Does Bush look more like Alfred E Neuman or a chimpanzee?
  14. People that are against Embryonic stem cell research are for umbilical (also called adult stem cell) research. That is their sole argument against embryonic research, other means are available, not to mention that all of the developements that have been made, have been with adult stemcells not with embryo's. I have no I dea where you got your idea that they are against that... but you are sadly mistaken.
  15. YES! As a compassionate humaniarian and liberal myself (who has no religious affiliation to dictate my ethics for me), abortion and/or the use of unborn babies for medical research is one of the very few issues on which The Left and I disagree. I too am compassionate toward those suffering from diseases and ailments who may benefit from medical advancements with stem cell research, how I strongly believe that all life is important at all stages. Given the alternative of using stem cells extracted from the umbilical cord, there is no reason to use the aborted embryos in research. Typically I can not stand George W Bush, however I sincerely hope that he stays true to his word and vetos the bill when it passes Congress today. It can be at least one thing for which I can be proud of him during his presidency. :-)
