What do you think about....?
Banking your baby's stem cells (cord blood). It is shown that these cells cure over 40 diseases. Its kind of costly though...just wanted to see what you all though about it. Thanks for your answers.

- I think it's a cool thing, but the chances of needing it are slim. If you have the money, then I definitely would, but if you don't, then the money would be better spent on diapers and things that you will definitely need.
- I think anything (research) that can help cure diseases is worth it....
- i think its wrong i dont like stem cell reseach at all
- Being pregnant myself I have read everything there is to read about cord blood banking. And personally I decided to pass on it. The chances of actually needing the stem cells that are collected are beyond rare. Unless someone else in your family is suffering from one of the diseases that could be helped by it, it is usually a lot of money wasted. Instead I would suggest finding out if the hospital you are going to deliver at allows you to donate your babies stem cells to a public bank. It works in the same way as organ donation. Once tested the company stores the cells and makes them available to someone who is a match in hopes that it will help to cure them. It is free for you to do and the more people that donate the fewer people are left without a viable match. It is a chance to help someone else who needs it for sure.
- i say do it. tried when i had my son but it wasnt yet available in my area. why wouldnt you do everything you can to make sure your child is protected from a variety of things
- I've never known anyone that could afford it but it seems like a good idea..
- If I had it to do over again, I would--no matter what the cost. Just think of all the good those stem cells and placenta blood can do if your child comes down with one of those diseases. I strongly encourage you to consider this.
