  2. As previous answerer points out, one study shows that an allogeneic transplantation has a long term survival of around 40%, which appears to be better than that of conventional chemotherapy. One caveat about looking at these data is that patients who undergo transplantation are usually those who have survived long enough after chemotherapy, so already they are a "healthier" group of patients and comparison to the group of patients who undergo chemotherapy in general is suspect. One has to weigh this with the additional fact that stem cell transplant carries with it the risk of death of 30% at the time of transplant, versus chemotherapy, which is much lower. So one will have to weigh the risks and the benefits carefully.
