Is immunotherapy the key to cancer cure?

Cancer research is now starting to focus on cancer stem cells and immunotherapy to eradicate cancer. Cancer stem cells may be the root cause of cancer, but there is evidence that immunotherapy may be able to eradicate cancers completely. There appears to be cancer immune people who can live to be 100 and never get cancer, even if they smoke. They may have a natural immunity to cancer. Wake Forest researchers have recently found cancer immune humans and are proposing a trial to transfer the white blood cells of these humans into cancer patients to see if their cancers will disappear. They already have done this in mice with complete success (SR/CR mice cancer immunity). There are also IDO and SOX2 immunity studies being researched. Wake Forest discovered mice that are resistant to cancer completely. They then transferred the white blood cells of these mice to other mice with cancer. The cancers were completely eradicated and they mice lived normal lives. This is innate immunity and this is the first time this has been shown. Researchers are trying to find the genetic cause of this to see if they can activate the same gene in humans. They also have identified cancer immune people and want to to transfer these people's white blood cells to humans in trials this fall. \Would be incredible if this worked. NP

  1. There have been alot of cancer cures in cell cultures and animal models during pre-clinical research. Thus far, nothing has translated to a cure in humans. It is a promising start but, I wouldn't get too excited if I were you until they have some clinical data from human trials.
  2. That is only one element; for there are many different types of cancers (blood, bone, organ, etc) and various modalities for treating each. As a simple object lesson...cancer is oftentimes traced back to free radicals causing oxidative stress to the cellular [lipid] membranes which can adversely impact our DNA. To neutralize or reduce this oxidation process (and also help repair the DNA), one must increase their level of antioxidants through the ingestion of fruits and vegetables (not synthetic supplements like A, C and E). The data is very conclusive on this. For your edification, I've posted several documents relating to this in my Yahoo Briefcase which you can freely download: http://briefcase.yahoo.com/apuzyr There is other information there, as well, which you may find useful pertaining to high protein diets, low carb diets, building up the immune system, ideal blood tests, macular degeneration, diabetic neuropathy, free radicals and antioxidants, phytonutrients, synthetic vitamins vs whole food supplements, etc. www.PreventionProof.com is another great resource. The research is highly credible and qualitative (published in both nutraceutical and medical journals). You will not find lame testimonials or some doctor's endorsement who is also "on the payroll". 3. Do you have any more info on Wake Forest immuno work? Like who to contact to find out status of study. Thanks, Gary
  4. Building up your immune system helps. Try Vitamin C therapy. A few years ago a cancer specialist came out with a paper that said the best cancer/infection fighter found to date was Interferon. At the time it was $15,000 a gram. The paper also said that Interferon was a by-product of the natural breakdown of Vitamin C in your body. Shortly after that the FDA tried to make Vitamin C by prescription only. Guess why? The FDA has the RDA for Vitamin C set at 64 mg a day, just enough to ward off scurvy. Linus Pauling, who got a Nobel Prize for his work with Vitamin C and a second Nobel Prize for Organic Chemistry, said that 1000 mg a day should be the minimum and 2000 mg a day if you are sick or smoke. He played tennis almost daily until the day he died at 96. Personally, I got sick twice a year for 2 weeks at a time, for more than 20 years, with something to this day the doctors have no idea what it was, but for a week in the middle of those 2 weeks I was flat on my back. I started Vitamin C therapy once I gave up on the doctors. I took enough to be asymptomatic for those 2 weeks. Too much and I got diarrhea and too little and I got sick. Within a narrow range, and it followed a bell curve over those 2 weeks, I was not sick. At the height I was taking 40,000 mg a day and 300,000 over the 2 weeks. After 2 years of that I have not been sick since – more than 15 years. Vitamin C acts as a natural diuretic so you need to drink a lot of water and watch your body in total, but my kidneys did not dissolve as the doctors predicted, or get massive kidney stones as other predicted. I did not dissolve my bones as some predicted or completely calcify my joints as others predicted. I had no side effects at all. It might be something to consider.
  5. Yes!! Immunotherapy, NOT artificial drugs, is the key to eradicating cancer. A normally-functioning immune system kills cancer cells every day of the year! Great question, and best of luck.
