Umbilical cord prolapse remedy?

I had a misscarriage in my 5th month last time, now i am pregnant and 3 months, doctor advised to stitch my utereus, will it address the umbilical cord prolapse problem, as she said that the position of cord is still not very good. Any suggesstion/tip to address this problem? Thanks

  1. I am not an MD, but based on what I've read in my pregnancy books and online these two issues are probably not directly related. You still have several months to go and the baby will move around quite a bit before you deliver. You really can't know how much of an issue the cord's position will be until you begin delivery.
  2. The stitch you refer to is a cervical cerclage. It is the closing of the cervix by sutures. It is sometimes done for pregnant women that have a history of second trimester miscarriages. This is not done to keep the umbilical cord from prolapsing. since the cord will move as the fetus grows and as fetal movements increase. But if the cervix is closed with a cerclage--this would prevent a prolapse cord from occuring. (Cord prolapse is a possibility in any pregnancy especially when the membranes are ruptured--naturally or artifically). I wish you all the best with this pregnancy!!
