Does the umbilical cord have a pulse?

I'm 6 1/2 months pregnant. I have been feeling this strong pulse in different areas of my stomach. At first I thought I might be feeling my baby during hiccups, but it is too consistent for hiccups. My husband and I thought maybe I was feeling a pulse from the umbilical cord & that's why it's in different areas. We're not sure if the umbilical cord has a pulse tho..... ?????

  1. the cord does have a pulse, however, you won't be able to feel it. It probably is hiccups. Fetal hiccups are very quick, very close together and can last for a long time. Being only 6 1./2 months your baby is still moving everywhere. It sounds like hiccups to me.
  2. The umbilical cord does pulsate.
  3. the umbilical cord does have a pulse, but i don't know if that is what you are feeling. of course, you know your body better than anyone on here, so if you know it is definately not the baby's, then maybe it is the cord.
  4. The umbillical cord does have a pulse. The cord consists of 2 arteries and a vein. Arteries pulse as your heart pumps blood. If you feel your carotid artery (where your jaw meets your neck), you can feel it pulsate. Same as the artery which runs near where your thumb meets your wrist. But can you feel that umbilical pulse through your abdominal wall? I dunno! We actually do a wavelength of the 2 arteries and 1 vein in the umbillical cord during ultrasound. The arteries sound like the fetus' heartbeat (whoosh, whoosh) and the vein sounds like wind! My radiologist likes to get the resistive index of the two arteries, and documenting the different wavelengths (pulses) helps prove you have a 3 vessel cord.
