Cord Blood Stem Cells Information

Can the umbilical cord been seen in an u/s??

Im 39weeks 3days and had an u/s last week to see how big my baby is. I have been 1cm dialated for 3 weeks and my baby isnt dropping. When my sister was pregnant the umbilical cord was wrapped around the babys neck. Is this a possibility as to why my baby isnt dropping?? I thought you could see the umbilical cord in an u/s and the doctor doesnt seem worried...Im being induced on Monday.

  1. yes, the cord can be seen but it usually gets wrapped when the baby drops and not before. My baby was born with the cord around her neck (double!). Don't worry about it, obgyn's and nurses know how to do their job. Congratulations.
  2. The umbilical cord doesn't effect why they drop or don't. My daughter dropped a week or so before labor, and was born with the cord around her neck-but of course as soon as she came out it fell off and she was fine. Yes, they can see it in the u/s, but not always. Your baby is so big now that it would be difficult so see exactly where each part of it is.
  3. My U/S showed the umbilical cord. I ask the tech to make sure I was having a boy and that it wasn't the umbilical cord she was seeing but the babies actual penis. She showed me were the umbilical cord was and were the babies penis was to reassure me he was a boy. I was 6 months prego at the time.
  4. Yes you can see it through an ultrasound as I went in for one so that they could see the blood flow going through the cord.
  5. Yes - You can see cord, placenta, etc. You can see your ovaries and all kinds of stuff on there. If they don't say there is a problem, then you're fine.
