Umbilical Cord?
So I have heard that old saying that if you lift your arms over your head the babies umbilical cord will get wrapped around the babies neck. Well, the other day I was talking to a friend and she swore by it, and like so did 3 other people! I was like...you guys are nuts...seriously! I mean, your stomach hardly moves when you lift your arms! Anyway - - I was just wondering what cause that to happen? Is it just the way the baby moves in you? Or what? Thats not true right...lol. I'd never heard the formula one!

- Ive never heard of that....it doesnt sound right to me either!
- It's an old wives tale. My mother-in-law told me that stuff when I was pregnant with my first. If it were true...I would of been in trouble. It's not true...ask your doctor. It's just silly!
- I birth with my hands over my head, and the umbilical chord wasn't stuck around my baby's neck. I also used to sleep with my hands over my head, because that was the only comfortable position when i was in my third trimester. I think this is another story to add to the "wives tale" category. Just like feeding a baby formula will strip the lining of baby's stomach if you've been breastfeeding. WTF?
- Its ment to be an old wives tale but... My great grandma came too look after me and my brother before mom went in to give birth and used to tell mom off all the time for hanging up the washing etc... My mom was positive it was an oldwives tale but when my lil brother was born the cord was around his neck! There is no proof that it was because of that but my grandma was like "told you so"
- no untrue completely, the only way that could happen is by the baby moving, when my first son was born he was two weeks early and his was wrappe twice boy i was glad that he ws early might not been they give you weeks more or less
- I know this is going to sound lame! My mom and I were watching a tv special on old wives tales and this was one of them. I was nine months pregnant and we were laughing our heads off. I put my arms up in the air while laughing. One week later my son was born the cord was wrapped around his neck twice. I nearly had a heart attack! Needles to say with my 2nd pregnancy I always had my arms at my sides. True or not it scared the crap out of me!
- That's an old wives tale, but it has no basis in reality! It's not the mom's fault if it happens. Cords do get wrapped around the babies neck, but it's rare. It usually happens when there's not enough amniotic fluid, and when the baby is moving around so much that they get tangled. But it is VERY rare. It's called a nuchal cord.
- no its not true.its an old wives tale
- that does not happen this is my 2nd time being prengant , i think i would know
